A lame duck traditionally is a politician whose successor has been elected but hasn't taken office yet. Did I miss something? Obama will become a lame duck in November of 2016.

More and more talking heads in recent years are tempted to apply it to anyone who has run for office for the last time. After 2012 a number of "pundits" implied that Obama had one year, or maybe 18 months to get important things done before the glow of his "mandate " wore off and attention shifted to the midterms and after that the juice would start shifting to those who stood a chance of winning in 2016.

Because he could get a lot done when he had nothing at stake. I think people who are posting a lot of the lame duck talk are boxing with ghosts.
