Before all the facts are in, this tragic incident is being used as a political tool/weapon by the Republicans. Pataki, a former NY governor, is not only acting on assumptions before knowing the facts, he is fueling police hostility against Mayor DeBlasio. Pataki should show more respect for the murdered police officers rather than using their deaths to create more chaos .

Governor Mario Cuomo, although running for re-election and although aware that the death penalty was overwhelmingly popular, stuck to his principled opposition to it. Pataki made that a big issue, as if it would have a major effect on crime rates. He combined that with the usual Republican baloney about tax cuts.
