Nebraskans appear ready for immigration reform. They just don’t want President Barack Obama going it alone.

A clear majority of Nebraskans — 63 percent — said they would support allowing illegal immigrants to stay in this country and obtain citizenship if they passed certain tests, including a criminal background check.

But a clear majority — 57 percent — opposed Obama’s recent executive order that protects some immigrants from deportation, according to a poll commissioned by The World-Herald.

The automated telephone poll of 800 registered voters from across Nebraska was conducted by Victory Phones, a national research and public polling firm. The survey was conducted Dec. 16-17 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

They would "welcome" immigrants but support deportation.

They would "welcome" immigrants but only if they pass a
criminal background check and become citizens.

This sounds like those religious fundie churches that welcome
people and help them only on their conditions.
