First Order Of Business For New GOP-Led Congress: Cook The Books

"SNIP.................

“This change will allow CBO and Joint Tax to include the non-partisan economic analysis they are already doing into the official scores,” a spokesman for the Rules panel said. “When the House considers major legislation that will have a significant impact on our economy, Members of Congress and the American people deserve the full picture from our budget scorekeepers."

For major legislation, such as tax reform, the CBO and the JCT would need to assess the budgetary effects of changes in “economic output, employment, capital stock and other macroeconomic variables," the proposal says.

They're also blocking Doug Elmendorf's reappointment as head of the CBO. Evidently the guy who was just fine in 2010 isn't anymore, because Congressional conservaKochs want someone who embraces dynamic scoring.

This is a little like using the current year's interest rates to determine the value of pensions 30 years out from now. By introducing short-term factors into CBO scoring along with measurements that have no business in policymaking -- like impacts on capital markets -- the numbers can be massaged to the point where they're completely meaningless. That's already true to a certain extent now, but after they institute this change, the CBO estimates will be utterly meaningless to anyone but billionaires.

I know you aren't talking about them, though. And they didn't even get notification that there was something wrong with their vote to protest, but went home from the polls thinking they had done their duty.

Now a for the factions that call for letting the GOP win to see how much suffering people will undergo and then embrace their fabled revolution, I do agree as the revolution is not going to come from the left.

It is already coming from the right and they are winning. Over all I agree with the blunt feeling of bitterness, but really, the people you speak of aren't liberals anymore. They are now libertarians and they have offered the articles from them to show it was a great idea.

Most of us who know more about the right and the LP, didn't swallow that swill and never will. If you are speaking of those who knew their votes were counted - and don't neglect that 7 million - who were mainly minority and in Democratic districts - this past election would have been won despite the LP encouraging them to not vote. They didn't fall for that swill either.

That doesn't count the millions who knew from in your face tactics they were being disenfranchised, and some of these were people of note, I might add, and could do nothing in the face of a twenty year and more plan to make this a one party nation, the Koch GOP LP that took over state elections. Add to that the economic stress of many, unable to jump through hoops and get around... it's not all their fault.

Now as the proud who called on people to not vote - they have my everlasting disdain. They have blood on their hands. I have seen this blood from the budget cutting, no tax, privatization maniacs at close range. Their pride killed. Period.

At this point, with all the media diversion, Donald Segretti tactics that we answer here everyday, misinformation, lack of knowledge of how the government is legally made to operate, the shit streams of CT and FUD, I see why you would feel that way.

And it's an opinion, I've seen some really hilarious ones at DU that don't deserve a reply. FWIW, and I don't know you or your posting history. That's what my opinion is.

Just sayin'

Not progressive, or liberal, but what he is, libertarian. That fact may not have made it to their brains yet, though, like kicking the tail of the Brontosaurus or the Apatosaurus, or so it was alleged they were so slow to recognize what was going on that it took a while for the nerves to send the signal to their pea-sized brains. May not be true at all, but anyway.

They have not admitted they are no longer progressives nor liberals, but seek something else. That's why they trash Democrats with a sneer that makes it through the keyboard. Not because their ox was gored, but they disdain such lowly species in favor of strong feelings and strong men - Putin makes them feel good! Men who speak of fighting good and evil in a swashbuckling manner is very satisfying. They think that anger and cursing has a dramatic appeal and they get swept up, but it's the lowest form of discourse. It shows a lack of ability to use language.

The libertarian MSM incites destructive, anti-democratic (small d and big D) reactions. It's pretty hard to escape on any site that is a new aggregrate. AJ and others know just what buttons to push. Apatosaurus is called the deceptive lizard for anatomical reasons, but it's what they are in other ways, too.

I understand having to parse my posts, as I have to do so with others to find similar language to respond with. Everyone is coming from their own context, but they can be fooled, too. And anyone who claims to have never been fooled, is still fooled or basking in willful ignorance. Or hasn't learned that we are all eligible to be hoodwinked, but not all things are dishonest. Lot of gray areas.
