I'm white, and even without being specifically told, I absorbed the feeling that authorities are there to serve me, and project that in my rare interactions with them. When I've felt like they weren't serving me, I've projected a sense of calm outrage. It's nothing conscious - just the way I react. And they generally respect that attitude, and seem to agree that yes, they are there to serve me. But I know from having seen black-white interactions that a black guy reacting the same way to a white cop would be treated as a hostile suspect and might face violence.

Frankly, I wish that more people would demonstrate a much better sense around here as well.
