"Historic" gains by Republicans in last election?

It is true that the Republicans slaughtered the Democrats in the last election. In somewhat of a surprise, they won back the US Senate from the Democrats. They also increased their numbers in the House.

However, we had the lowest turnout in 72 years. But those folks back then were pre-occupied with a war in Europe. So they, at least, had an excuse.

In effect, Republicans won by default. It's sort of like a Little League game that is called in the 3rd inning because of the "mercy" rule.

It was not "historic" in its magnitude or turnout. It may have been "historic" in how many voters were turned off by the political Parties and refused to get involved in their back-stabbing and name-calling.

But what mandate did the Republicans win? The majority of voters never indicated their choice for any policies except to continue to be anti-Obama. They won the right to clean up the mess after the Battle of the Little Big Horn...

What matters is we all are in trouble especially in states where Republicans have both majority in state houses and a Republican Governor. Not sure how many states that is but one is too many.

Allow two parties that are in may ways just reflections of each other. Both pursing societal dead ends. And watch where it takes that country.
