Conservatives in Canada play the Fear Card: "Jihadist Under Your Bed..." | Vancouver Sun

In her first foray into faux journalism, Dianne Watts, former mayor of Surrey and present Conservative candidate for South Surrey-White Rock, mailed out a flyer last week with a mock-up of a newspaper on it. It featured the boldface headline of:

“ISIS URGES JIHADISTS TO ATTACK CANADIANS”

It was followed by a terrorist’s quote of:

“YOU WILL NOT FEEL SAFE IN YOUR BEDROOMS”

Be afraid, the message was. Be very afraid. Jihadist bogeymen could be hiding under your bed at this very moment, and only Conservatives, and not those milquetoast Liberals or NDPers, can root them out. The stark choice as defined by Watts’ flyer? It’s either us or bed-wetting and blood.

Alas, if any blood was spilled, it was hers. The flyer flopped. Local residents and letter-to-the-editor writers made their loathing clear, with one describing her fearmongering — accurately, I’d say — as “absurd.”

Quebec campaign gets nasty; ad wars still muted in rest of Canada

BRUCE CHEADLE
OTTAWA — The Canadian Press

Two hard-hitting election ads that play on voters’ fears of niqab-wearing outsiders began airing in Quebec last week, but the French-language spots didn’t have English equivalents.

His anti-Muslim fear card is having and effect.
The Liberals are tied with them in some other polls. The NDP voters need to rally behind Trudeau. Harper cannot be allowed another term.
