Vatican: The Pope did not know who Kim Davis was when he met her.

http://www.salon.com/2015/10/02/the_vatican_confirms_that_pope_francis_was_ratfcked_into_meeting_kim_davis/

Pierce wrote that we must “stipulate that there are more than a few members of the Church’s permanent bureaucracy, both within the Clan Of The Red Beanie and without, who are not happy that this gentleman got elected Pope, and who are not happy with what he’s done and said since he was.” If you are one of those people “and you’re looking to ratfuck the pope’s visit to the United States, and to his agenda in general, you’d be looking to put him in a box.”

...

Which, according to the Vatican’s latest statement, is exactly what happened. “The pope did not enter into the details of the situation of Mrs. Davis, and his meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position in all of its particular and complex aspects,” Rev. Lombardi said.

“Pope Francis met with several dozen persons who had been invited by the Nunciature to greet him as he prepared to leave Washington for New York City,” he continued. “Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the Pope’s characteristic kindness and availability.”

“The Pope did not enter into the details of the situation of Mrs. Davis and his meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position in all of its particular and complex aspects.”

The Pope also met Mark Wahlberg, which can only mean that he's a fan of Transformers 4 and Ted. And Boogie Nights.

1. The link the author gives does not prove his claim

The article you are posting bases its claims on this article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/03/world/europe/pope-francis-kim-davis-meeting.html?action=Click&contentCollection=BreakingNews&contentID=51747678&pgtype=article

All the link says is that meeting her does not NECESSARILY mean he endorses her. It also follows that he does not necessarily disagree with her either.

It is the usual vatican spin.

It also does not say, at any point, he was clueless about who she was. Further, he was asked about her and gave his actual position referring to her as a conscientious objector.

4. The Pope meets with a bunch of people, brought to him by personnel he should be

able to trust--but there's obviously a political agenda at play here, someone thought they'd get her in and then play it up like the Pope was just DYING to meet and support a low-level evangelical Protestant county clerk on her fourth marriage who believes Catholics aren't going to heaven. That's my take on it.

13. I agree. I'm not a Pope fan by any stretch of the imagination.

I also don't see the controversy over his comments on conscious objection. I agree, all people have the right to conscious objection, but not the right to be free of consequences from it.

I don't know why Davis' lawyers are promoting this. Her brand of Christianity doesn't think too highly of Catholicism, in so far they don't even think they're Christians.

Just my two cents.

It's not as if Pope Francis is going to endorse same-sex marriage. He's the international leader of a religion that bases its beliefs on unprovable concepts. If one is not a follower of those beliefs, one cannot expect the Pope to be relevant to their life.

As much as I have followed the Kim Davis story-- and I think Judge Bunning, a Republican, has handled the case fairly, legally and wisely-- I don't care about her, either. The Rowan County Clerk's office has been issuing the marriage licenses as required by the Federal Court so Ms. Davis' personal beliefs are no longer preventing people from getting married. She's odious, obnoxious and obtuse but her influence has been blunted and her supporters marginalized.

Of course, her lawyers are the real culprits and manipulators of the story and it's been for their own political and cultural gain. I'm not certain that Ms. Davis' case is over yet and I look forward to seeing if the judge will be able to take any actions against her attorneys.

Idiots in the post-counterreformation era rarely get too high up in the hierarchy, so I know where my bet is.

Vatican Strengthens Ties with Evangelicals and Mormons Against Gay Marriage
"This week the Vatican hosted a three-day, international, interreligious colloquium called Humanum, “The Complementarity of Man and Woman: An International Colloquium.” Its goal was to “propose anew the beauty of the relationship between the man and the woman.” Speakers came from nearly two dozen countries and a variety of religious traditions, including Muslims, Jews, Sikhs and Taoists.

The presence of American evangelicals and the LDS Church was particularly notable. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church, and Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, each gave speeches, and representatives from the Heritage Foundation and the Family Research Council in Washington attended. President Henry Eyring of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ first presidency spoke and Elder Tom Perry of the LDS’s Quorum of the Twelve also joined. In the United States, this trio of faiths has worked together to stand against the government’s Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate, but it was the first time they were coming together at the Vatican to talk about marriage........
Adds Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council: “The atmosphere was almost euphoric as the attendees from six of the world’s seven continents broke from the historic gathering to return to their respective nations renewed in their stand for marriage,” he says. “The courts may declare otherwise, and Hollywood may depict its demise, but the union of a man and a woman as the natural and enduring definition of marriage will endure until the end.”

Francis was the keynote speaker, Vatican event. Did they not know who all of those people were when they invited them to take part? Were they blindsided by the conference they produced themselves, hoodwinked by their own chosen guest list?

I'd love to see one of the Defenders take a shot at rationalizing that event. I keep asking.
