Liberal U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, and the American Crossroads super PAC, which was co-founded by former George W. Bush operative Karl Rove, are both taking aim at the Senate aspirations of U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter.
Murphy, with strong Democratic Party establishment support, is running against Grayson in Floridas 2016 Democratic Senate primary. Many Republicans see Murphy as a tougher general election opponent, so its not surprising that American Crossroads and the conservative Club For Growth have taken shots at him.
Graysons campaign and American Crossroads both promoted a liberal bloggers claim that Murphy was repeatedly snubbed by Hillary Clinton when she visited South Florida for three fundraisers and a rally on Friday.
But the snub story is full of holes including, most conspicuously, the fact that Clinton told donors at one fundraiser that shes so proud of Murphy.
Graysons campaign on Saturday and American Crossroads today sent out emails linking to a blog post claiming that Murphy was barred from entering a Friday fundraiser for Clinton at the home of Fred Cunningham in North Palm Beach; then ignored by Clinton at a public rally in Davie in which she gave a shout-out to U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton; then similarly turned away at two later fundraisers.

(11,641 posts)So keep posting the slime attacks and supporting the former GOPer who voted for the Benghazi fiasco that's trying to vilify Hillary. The hypocrisy is breathtaking...

(14,255 posts)Anyway, Murphy was a Republican until 2012. Only switched so he could run against another Republican. No "cirisis of conscience or anything like that.
Third Way New Democrat Coalition Dino. I live in Florida. I will vote for Grayson.

(14,255 posts)You can associate Grayson with any scary person you want - I won't vote for a DINO. Period.
And - THIS DINO, Murphy, voted to establish the Benghazi committee! If Grayson had done that, there would be squawking OPs about it. But hey, if it is a DINO, then - all is forgiven. While condemning the committee.
And Murphy is a member of that Third Way-steered New Democrat Coalition. No, thank you. Not even a good try, really.

(24,546 posts)but I am no fan of Grayson. He is beloved by many here, but I have no respect for him at all and would not be surprised if he is slinging s#@!.

(17,064 posts)Murphy (a former republican, as noted) is being pushed by DINO Debbie, who's noted for her love of republicans. If Murphy beats Grayson in the primary, a lot of Dems will be voting for the goat-killer in protest.

(147 posts)And considering it took her so long to make a decision on the Iran deal, her endorsement for anyone likely won't come anytime soon.
Besides, would Grayson supporters actually WANT DWS to endorse him? I wouldn't think so...
djean111
(14,255 posts)The progressive Caucus in Florida was threatened with de-certification if they persisted in supporting Grayson against Murphy.
There is, also, quite a difference between wanting a DWS endorsement and watching DWS throw support behind DINOs, refuse to help Dems campaign against her GOP buddies, and actually campaign FOR GOP buddies. This has been pointed out here at DU quite a bit.

(147 posts)The fact that Grayson is outright promoting lying about Murphy to win the primary shows that he's just as bad as the GOP in this regard (but considering his past, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised)

(12,647 posts)At DWT we've been writing about how right-wing fake Democrat Patrick Murphy (FL) was one of only seven Democrats-- all corrupt conservatives from the Blue Dogs and/or New Dems-- to vote for the establishment of the Republican Party's Get Hillary Committee, which started out as a Benghazi committee and is now being used as a committee to promote a GOP-manufactured e-mail "scandal," led by Republican pinhead Trey Gowdy of South Carolina. Although it has now been confirmed by bumbling imbecile Kevin McCarthy, every other Democrat knew that that's all the Benghazi committee ever was meant to be: a platform for slandering Hillary Clinton.
At the time of the vote, Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn let it be known that a vote in favor would be looked at by the House Democratic leadership very negatively and urged every Democrat to vote no. And every Democrat did vote no except for the seven who were always giving faux "bipartisan" cover to the House Republicans for their crackpot bills and resolutions:
Patrick Murphy (FL)
Kyrsten Sinema (AZ)
Collin Peterson (MN)
John Barrow (GA), driven from Congress the following year
Mike McIntyre (NC), driven from Congress the following year
Nick Rahall (WV), driven from Congress the following year
Ron Barber (AZ), driven from Congress the following year
I was on a media call with Alan Grayson and half a dozen Florida journalists Friday morning when he warned that Murphy's record of siding with Republicans, and in particular his vote to support the now thoroughly discredited Benghazi committee, could hurt the eventual Democratic presidential nominee in Florida. Grayson:

Does that tell you all you need to know about Sanders? That hi supporters are teamed up with the likes of the Benghazi Committee?
Just wondering.
For the record, both Murphy and Grayson are good people. Grayson is a DU member.

(14,255 posts)Also, even without Grayson in the mix, Murphy is a DINO. He only switched parties in order to run against another Republican. New Democrat Coalition member. Advised by the Third Way. NO, thank you. My opinion of Murphy has nothing to do with Bernie or Grayson. Nothing.

(10,798 posts)Just last year he voted for the Benghazi inquisitions. Sounds like a loyal Dem to me.
Rep. Alan Grayson accused his Democratic Senate primary rival, Rep. Patrick Murphy, of aiding and abetting a Republican witch hunt of Hillary Clinton by voting last year to create a House select committee to investigate the 2012 Benghazi attacks.
But Clinton, known for her long memory of political slights, didnt seem to hold Murphys vote against him. When Murphy attended a fundraiser for Clinton in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, the Democratic presidential front-runner recognized Murphy and told donors she is so proud of him.
