Because it reveals how deep and how sick the corruption is.
In short, this scandal is too deep, too dark, and covers too many people from both sides of the political aisle for it to ever proceed in public. If it were to be exposed it would uncover a tale of surveillance, espionage, scandal, drug money, child prostitution and blackmail that could blow up all over Washington and make Watergate look like a minor footnote in the history of political scandal.
However the plea deal he just got will not bring it to light
The plea negotiations, first revealed in a hearing late last month, mean many of the details surrounding Hastert's prosecution might never be publicly aired, including the identity of Individual A, the mysterious figure who prosecutors say took cash from Hastert to keep quiet about a dark history with him.
The plea will allow Mr. Hastert, who presided over the House from 1999 to 2007, to avoid a potentially long and embarrassing trial and to keep secret information that he has hidden for years,

What are you getting at here? What specifically do you know Democrats did? What evidence of unreported "drug money, child prostitution and blackmail" do you have?

(81,856 posts)If you know something you should post it. What bothers me is that this makes your much more important claims about the banking system look questionable. "Drug money, child prostitution and blackmail" is a bombshell claim.

(65,616 posts)You know it must really be BAD if they cannot get him off on some probation deal...the fact he will have to serve time means it must be really, really bad.
Delay didn't see a day in jail. Foley didn't either nor will Issa.
Hastert is going to prison...must be bad.

(59,503 posts)Had this gone to trial, what it would have brought out are accusations that Hastert, before elected to the House misused his position as teacher and coach to have sexual relations with students. The only connection to Congress might be questions of whether that continued with pages or whether his past kept him from stopping Foley before that blew up before the 2006 elections.
I have seen - I've been on DU too long not to have - what you are referring to and see no direct connection.
