The Toronto Star had an interesting editorial endorsing Justin Trudeau and the Liberals to out the decade long conservative government led by Stephen Harper. Besides election specific stuff, it made some cogent points about the role of government in a nation's society.
"Beyond the specifics of each partys policies, voters should also turn away from the Conservatives implicit message that Canada as a whole just shouldnt aspire to much. They have spent so much time and energy whittling away at the very concept of government that they devalue the idea of collective achievement itself.
The Liberals under Trudeaus leadership are rekindling the sense among Canadians that we can do better, and that government can be an essential part of that effort. As we wrote last week, they offer hope for those who believe Canada can be more generous, more ambitious and more successful. Thats no small thing."

(2,208 posts)It's a federal election, and The Toronto Star is the largest circulation paper in Canada, I believe, and gets national exposure for it's contents. Sooooo, I guess the editorial endorsement was directed at ALL Canadian's eligible to vote in the federal election in principle, and to the voter's in the GTA around Toronto at a minimum. People often hear of political endorsements from papers that they themselves don't subscribe to or read in general. Personally, I used to hear all the time in the media whom The Detroit Free Press endorsed, as an example.
I was making light of your title typo.

(13,616 posts)Once, Canada was a great nation because they , unlike us, were willing to use government as part of the solution. Now, if this keeps up, they will become American lite, slightly less calories, a lot less flavor. Think of a weaker, more watery version of Labbat's blue.
