Applebee's Apologizes for Not Paying Employee With Autism

Officials at Applebee's have apologized to an employee's family who claim their son was never paid for his time on the job and say he will be compensated for his work.

Caleb Dyl, 21, started in the prep kitchen of a Rhode Island Applebee's last summer through a special program that aims to help the disabled find work, according to his father Bob Dyl.

Dyl, who has autism, worked 12 hours a week and would help prepare meals for the restaurant chain.

"If you give him a task laid out with procedures he can follow, he will follow those procedures," Bob Dyl said of his son. "He’s very diligent."

Okay, so Caleb maybe didn't understand that he should be getting checks, and maybe he didn't submit his time sheets, but you'd think his manager would notice something.

How did his parents not notice that he wasn't getting paid? If they had to fill out his employment paperwork, then you'd think that they'd also be managing his finances.

It was probably, the parents assumed, set up as direct deposit so it would be easier for Caleb.

How could the manager not notice missing or misfiled paperwork for all that time. Did he or she not even look at employees' time sheets?

Probably a serious lack of training by the company for their managers. It's all about the bottom line, all that paperwork they probably only tell them the bare minimum about because they have to.

so I can't boycott them.

I may be underemployed, but at least my meager pay stub shows up every fortnight.

And I mean that from the bottom of my heart...taking advantage of someone born socially inept is about the most evil thing I can think of to do to that person. They knew he would not ask any questions, grrr....

I hated applebees before...but now I loath them with every fiber.
