They had illusions of grandeur. They were going to destroy Hillary Clinton. They took turns with their hatchets. She stood strong, like an oak tree.
Now, it must be tough to swallow that she took their best shots and came out looking stronger than when she walked in this morning.
We can only hope that the voters in their districts will give each of them their just reward in the next election...

(5,902 posts)I usually divide Republican acquaintances into two camps: those who were Republican before the Bush regime (and who've since either switched or are seriously thinking of doing so); and those who, having lived through all that calamity, are still Rethugs and don't care what.

the same can be said for Kansas voters. If I weren't so damned old I'd do like so many of the younger generation--get the hell out of Kansas!
Hillary was calmly brilliant, and the repugs look like junior high bullies next to her mature attitude.
Also appreciated the added evidence that this is the party of civility, unlike the re-thugs.
And BTW, I LOVE CUMMINGS!!!!

Second, if you are a lawyer examining a witness and said witness is destroying your case, eating your lunch and kicking your ass six ways to Sunday you get that witness off the stand ASAP if not sooner. The LAST thing you do is keep the witness on the stand to keep demolishing you brick by brick. But they did it anyway. T
There was a great screencap of the hearing and HRC had a bemused "Jeez, just how dumb are these guys, anyway?" look on her face that was priceless.

(441 posts)and have for 20 years. Hillary will need a huge turnout to overcome the Republican hate machine. Bernie may be all things you mentioned but they won't hate him like they hate Hillary. Bernie gets 25% of the Republicans in Vermont to vote for him. The Republicans in Vermont are more moderate than other states but they're not liberal and certainly not socialist.

(33,688 posts)The cave orc base has been trained to hate her guts for nearly 25 years. No one will motivate more of the cave orcs to come out and vote (against her) than she will. She has very little chance of peeling off any Repigs and is probably worth 1-2 million additional Repig votes nationally. Bernie can definitely eat into the Repig base. Like Paul Wellstone, people will vote for him even if they don't agree with him all down the line simply because they can tell he is not bullshitting them.

(4,490 posts)But wow... I find it hard to disagree. My gut feeling is that this has done more for Hillary Clinton's presidential prospects than any debate, advertising, or stump speech ever could. I actually didn't watch the hearings (going to try and see some later tonight) but followed along reaction chats throughout the day and checked some news pieces. General consensus seems to be Clinton, with a couple assists from Democrats on the panel, made the entire Republican party look extremely foolish.
A big moment seemed to be the vote on releasing the transcripts that many found both maddening and hilariously incompetent.
Hillary got to look very strong on the big stage under intense scrutiny.
