http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/10/bill_would_remove_tax_on_gun_s.htmlSponsored by U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Arizona, the bill has been endorsed by the American Suppressor Association and National Rifle Association.
"Suppressors significantly reduce the chance of hearing loss for anyone who enjoys the shooting sports," Chris Cox, executive director of NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, told AmmoLand.com.
I sense a possible negotiation in the making. Universal background checks in exchange for less expensive suppressors?

(16,974 posts)the ones that do not do the research to know it does nothing to silence a weapon like in the movies. Just reduces the noise level to a more safe range. Some European countries require them for safety.

(33 posts)lowering a rifle from 160 to 130 DB doesn't make it any more deadly. Just saves your hearing.

(6,409 posts)Noise suppressors are helpful in making gunfire, such as one would hear at shooting ranges, less obnoxious. They don't "silence" the firearm, the way you see in movies, but reduce the noise to a tolerable level. It's very difficult to reduce firearm noise to that little "phhttt" you see in James Bond movies. It is possible to "silence" certain firearms, so I guess there would have to be a provision to prevent reducing the noise below a certain level.
