Jeb! cuts staffers again as donors get nervous

Jeb Bush “is shaking up his struggling presidential campaign, ordering across-the-board pay cuts, downsizing his headquarters staff, cutting ties with some consultants and refocusing his efforts on retail campaigning and on-the-ground organizing in the early voting states,” the Washington Post reports.

“The campaign, which entered October with $10.3 million in the bank, is taking significant steps to curtail spending. It is slashing its budget, excluding media and voter contact efforts, by 45 percent from its June plans, and is reducing ties to some consultants to eliminate what the campaign sees as extraneous overhead costs.”

Bloomberg: “Bush’s advisers, under pressure from their donors and from falling and stagnant poll numbers, have been discussing ways to retool the campaign in recent days, and came to the conclusion that a course correction was essential. While recent tangles with Donald Trump have energized the campaign, Bush’s senior team recognized a more fundamental set of changes was required that didn’t involve dealing directly with the party’s surprising—and surprisingly durable—front-runner.”

At this point, the longer he stays aloft, the harder he's going to crash when he hits the ground.

right now, with Trump and Carson way ahead in the race, there's not a lot of room for an establishment turd like Jeb! so he has to wait it out until one or both of them drop.

so how does he keep his campaign going for the next 3-4 months? austerity, baby. he'll just downsize the shit out of it, keep the leases and the phone numbers, stay quiet, and wait for the inevitable Trump-Carson burnout. then he jumps back in again, hires back staff, goes to the donor well, and revs the campaign back up.

i know a lot of us would like to see him disappear from this race, and politics in general, entirely, but killing vampires is never easy. he's not playing for temporary advantage early in the primary season, he's waiting for the endgame to make his big moves.

Jeb! will not be easily beaten in the GE either.

he comes from a dynasty that knows one thing and does it well: leveraging privilege and influence to acquire additional power and influence. do NOT underestimate his potential for late-campaign resurgence.

a Cuban Obama to Repubs (in other words, they think he's a smooth little neocon but doesn't have enough experience to run the country), Snarly Fiorina and Carson will have their moments and then fade away, I have rotten produce in my fridge crisper more likable than Ted Cruz, and Kasich isn't apparently beloved by the party. Bush and Kasich are the "responsible" choices, so I expect the nominee to be one of those two guys, but probably Bush, as he's got more of a machine behind him. And he will show up with ammo in the general election.
