I am really upset about hurricane Patricia. Here are live cams if interested.

I've been through several of these, certainly nothing like this. It's so damn tragic. Fortunately I am nowhere near this one. I feel so sorry for the people there.

Here is some more reporting on Patricia with cams.

first the hotel said it would evacuate them, ow it is just moving them to a higher floor. I would be very nervous about that.

The main problem is all the plate glass in a beachfront hotel. They'll be far better off with the room doors closed and locked, all lined up and sitting in the hotel hallway. They'll get wet when the windows go, but they'll survive.

Having the foresight to run a tub full of water will also help them survive. Otherwise, it'll have to be the toilet tank for fresh water.

when you haven't gone through one for a while. You also forget what it's like to have rain falling horizontally so that you have to run around stuffing towels and newspaper into windows and doors. Then there's the fun of seeing glass bulging inward and wondering if the masking tape you've got all over it will keep it from shattering.

Yuck. At least whee i am now, the most we have to worry about is one of them raining itself out over us and Patricia won't do that, she'll go east over east Texas.

Don't live on the water and there are lots of buildings between them and the beach but still very scary. She says the roads are now closed out of PV and the electricity and water will be turned off at 6pm. She'll email me as soon as they get power back, whenever that is. I am very worried.

and a mile above it; we have already gotten 4" of rain today....the wind is starting up too, and the dogs are wigging out (air pressure?). Can't imagine what it will be like on the coast.

The places where it is hitting have a large population of the very poor. This is going to hurt, big time. Get ready to open your wallets for hurricane relief.

37. an update:

Patricia made landfall in a sparsely-populated area north of Manzanillo and south of Puerto Vallarta. I've driven through there and the only road is back a ways from the coast; there are small scattered villages and banana plantations and not much else. I hope those people got out and they will need help to rebuild, but this is much much better than what might have happened.

For us, it is pouring rain, and we can expect more rain and high winds in the next days but we are doing fine: satellite, power and internet are intermittent, but then they frequently are.

I hope we have all dodged a bullet.
