Aides said the Social Security Disability Insurance program would be amended, in part to tighten and standardize eligibility requirements that now vary by state. That change was projected to save the government $5 billion. In addition, the accord will call for eliminating a provision of the Affordable Care Act, not yet in force, that would require businesses with more than 200 employees to automatically enroll their workers for health insurance.
Anyone?

Snip: Addresses a shortfall in Social Security payments to the disabled by preventing a 20 percent across-the-board benefit cut to recipients. Negotiators estimate changes in the disability program would result in $168 billion in savings over the long term.
Ensures that Medicare beneficiaries don't face a premium increase. The increase could affect millions of seniors.

If you're not making cuts, how are you getting the 'savings'?

(17,796 posts)much less billions. Sounds to me like they are cutting it, just not 20% 'across the board'. Maybe a lower rate and targeted in some fashion? Although I have no idea how they would do that.

(54,770 posts)in 2016 because the disability fund does not have enough money. That's a fact, although a stupid result of the system.

(17,796 posts)and is normally what happens, but then where do they get the savings out of?

(849 posts)By blanket denying all claims in process and killing future claims
essentially freezing SSDI at current levels.

(17,796 posts)It seems that way looking at veterans health claims and widely publicized deaths waiting for care that the govt does have a tendendancy to take the attitude of 'wait em out .. they'll die off'. If they exhibit the same process of dealing with aged, sick-disabled populations the same as sick-disabled veterans your question of 'waiting for them to disappear' is a valid concern.

(32,826 posts)When people do not receive healthcare they get sick, without treatment, they die. When people do not eat, they get sick, and without treatment and or food, they die. Not that any of these morally and ethically bankrupt polls care. Every time I hear HRC supporters talk about how much she's going to help people it makes me want to vomit a little more. We can only expect this crap to increase. Where is she on these cuts? Bernie is calling for an increase to these programs not a decrease. When the hell are people going to stand up and say NO MORE!!!
