Friday night’s episode of Jeopardy! featured the Final Jeopardy! category “Flowers” which seems harmless enough, right?

The clue was “The flower pictured here is called this, also a disparaging term for people on the political left,” which lead host Alex Trebek to predict, “I have a feeling that you may have found a way to insult liberals in this country.”

Becky Sullivan, a producer for NPR, had no hope of catching her opponent and bid her entire $6,000 stack. After revealing her response, “What is a pansy,” Trebek said, “Yep, you found a way to insult liberals in this country.”

While Becky’s answer cost her the rest of her money, she still walked away with $2,000 and her response made her a conservative hero on Twitter: @ link

correct when one or more contestants do not. For instance, I don't do all that well with European Literature, but this question seemed easy to me.

Suppose that were you, and you didn't know the right answer. (I didn't know that bleeding hearts were a plant.)

You have 30 seconds to think of a flower that's also an insult. What are you going to do? Lose on principle, or take a wild guess?

Not sure why it should be considered a "disparaging term". People may mean it as an insult or a joke, but I don't let it bother me. I usually just thank them, and say that it's far better than being a non-caring conservative asshole.

That usually ends the discussion.
