STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Bond has been set for $1 million for the woman accused of crashing her car into a crowd of people at the OSU Homecoming parade. Adacia Chambers made her first court appearance in a video arraignment Monday.
She's being held at the Payne County Jail, facing four complaints of second-degree murder at this time. The punishment is from 10 years to life for each count.
Stating Chambers is "huge" flight risk, District Attorney Laura Thomas requested the $1 million bond. Prosecutors said there is evidence Chambers drove into the crowd deliberately.
On Monday, the prosecuting attorney asked for two weeks to file formal charges, citing the complexity of the case and amount of evidence that must be compiled and reviewed. The main reason is that a fifth victim is in a very fragile state, according to the prosecuting attorney.

Apparently there's a good chance he won't survive his injuries.

(53,833 posts)I don't care for crowds, but I had been to at least one Homecoming parade while I worked at OSU. It is a big deal, like it is for most universities. OSU has had more than a few tragedies like this. I was there when the plane crashed with the men's basketball team. That was devastating. I hope the survivors recover, well and quickly, and that another life is not lost.

(12,778 posts)We were out of pocket Saturday morning, so we didn't know about it until she told us. That was a lucky thing for us because we didn't have to worry about whether or not she was involved.

(53,833 posts)Even more glad y'all didn't know. I can only imagine how stressful it would have been to see that on the news knowing your daughter could be there.

(53,833 posts)The officer who pulled her from the car claims she said she was trying to kill herself. It very well may be true, which will simply compound the pain of this tragedy.

(18,816 posts)All that pain and suffering for what?

(53,833 posts)...the head of the OK Mental Health group is pleading with both sides to stop with predictions and assertions without proof because of the issues it creates with those who are suffering with mental disease. It was a wonderful plea. It is one thing to speculate, quite another to make claims as is being done by the defense and the prosecution. The lab results from the blood work aren't even back yet, much less any mental health evaluations.
It is just a sad situation.

Who would do such a terrible thing?

(29,503 posts)I'm reading that no, it wasn't drunk driving, it was mental illness. And in other reports, she 'blacked out'.
So if authorities can't agree, we can be certain of even less than they are.
If it was DUI or maliciousness, then ... I can't even go there, it scares me to even think about the scenario. I don't know if as one ages, you are less able to emotionally handle these kinds of stories, but I've stopped watching 48 Hours because the stories seems grimmer than ever, and the scenario where she did this on purpose or due to DUI ... I just can't go there.
