Outdoor Retailer REI: "All stores will be closed on Black Friday."

"For 76 years we’ve been dedicated to getting people outside. On 11/27 the co-op is closing all 143 stores so our employees can do just that. We hope to see you and all 5.5 million of our members out there too. #OptOutside"

They are encouraging their customers and employees to just spend the day enjoying the outdoors.

Not only will all employees have off Thanksgiving, but they will also have off on Friday... With pay.

I like it.

They sell high quality gear. It's expensive, but the last thing you want is for your backpack, or your boots, or your water filter, or your tent, etc. to blow out when you are 30 miles into the wilderness.

And the people who work there love working there.

You can buy something, try it out for a while, then return it for pretty much any reason.

Their prices are retail list, but members get a 10% rebate every year for items they bought at list price. Also a 20% discount for one fill priced item a couple times a year.

They also have a "garage sale" where you can buy slightly used returned items for vary low prices.

Glad to see they treat their employees well and are bucking the Black Friday craziness.

It's one of their top 10 sales days of the year.

But they don't have Wall Street to answer to. So screw it...

We may even hit the lake and try for a few late season Largemouths.
