Keith Olbermann: I can’t stand to live in a Trump building anymore

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/keith-olbermann-i-cant-stand-to-live-in-a-trump-building-anymore/2016/03/08/fc755896-e559-11e5-b0fd-073d5930a7b7_story.html

Okay, Donnie, you win.

I’m moving out.

Not moving out of the country — not yet anyway. I’m merely moving out of one of New York’s many buildings slathered in equal portions with gratuitous gold and the name “Trump.” Nine largely happy years with an excellent staff and an excellent reputation (until recently, anyway) — but I’m out of here.

I’m getting out because of the degree to which the very name “Trump” has degraded the public discourse and the nation itself. I can’t hear, or see, or say that name any longer without spitting. Frankly, I’m running out of Trump spit.

And, yes, I’m fully aware that I’m blaming a guy with the historically unique fashion combination of a cheap baseball cap and Oompa Loompa makeup for coarsening politics even though, out of the two of us, I’m the one who has promulgated a “Worst Persons in the World” list for most of the past decade. That’s how vulgar this has all become. It’s worse even than Worst Persons.

Stopped watching MSNBC when he left.

So far I am liking the new Vice channel...it would be awesome if he got a half hour on there sometime between 6-10pm.

Viceland is its own channel. The Vice News 30-minute shows are on HBO, but Viceland has shows such as "Gaycation" and is carried by SlingTV, the streaming alternative to cable. Spike Jonze is Viceland's creative director.

Come back - we need and miss you. And no need to apologize for that whole Worst Person thing. You and I both know it was a necessary means of taking down people like Trump and others when no one else would, and for that, I will always be grateful.

PS. "Running out of Trump spit"? Beautiful!

(of course I'd rather see him rant for an hour every night on tv about politics). God, that seem so long ago now. Where does the time go? How long has "this" (whatever "this" is) been going on now?

But yeah, awesome. Thanks for sharing this one!

he has always seemed in my opinion to find the right metaphor to what a loser is all about, and when it came to the "Worst Person in the World"---------------------2/3 of population has a whole has run out of drumpF spit, but on the right wing republican side, over 365 delegates and climbing for this guy think he just fine, it is going to be amazing to see how much the RNC and the party leaders are falling in line with this drumpF, when it comes to endorsements, and even though he is self funding his clown show now, what is the RNC going to do, when he demands a billion dollars to run if he gets the nomination-------------------amazing

They (republicans) created this situation-----------just look at the what is going on with the U.S. Supreme Court issue-------that says it all

Honk---------------------for a political revolution Bernie 2016

see him come back but be a little more of a team player. You'd think he could stand to not take most of the money from a shoestring operation trying to get somewhere. He could bring big bucks into something like Free Speech TV if he wanted to.

At Current, I watched him basically call massive attention to small screw-ups with his obvious disgust and displeasure. A few things that most of us wouldn't have noticed if not for his display. He could have taken it in stride and made it work. It wasn't like "Billdo's" "Fuck it, we'll do it live" tantrum but it was closer that he should have liked.

I should go read Keith's bio. I kind of doubt that despite his expertise at sports broadcasting, that he was a guy you would have always wanted on your team. The great lesson sports can teach you is not how to play great when your winning, but how you react when you're getting your ass kicked! As a real big and fast kid for my age, I got my share of the latter. They see your potential and you don't just get to stay playing the kids your age. At the first opportunity, you are moved up to get a taste of playing with the big kids and get your ass handed to you!

As a sophomore at about 180 in the mid 70's, I had to go against a guy that started at DE for Notre Dame the next year as a true freshman. He was about six inches taller and outweighed me by about 60 pounds. I and our TE double teamed him all game, but it was still like getting up looking out your earhole about every play! You can't quit. If you do, your backup will get killed even worse! That was a junior varsity game where we played a smaller school's varsity that won the state championship for the third year in a row that year. We knew they would stomp us!

After game like that, my next two years starting on our schools varsity line, no one ever scared me. The only sack I ever gave up was a guy that started at tackle for the U of Washington. That game, the junior kid that was my backup had to be praying I wouldn't get hurt so he'd have to go in there.
