He played a leading role in writing and pushing through Congress the 1999 repeal of the Depression-era Glass-Steagall Act, which separated commercial banks from Wall Street. He also inserted a key provision into the 2000 Commodity Futures Modernization Act that exempted over-the-counter derivatives like credit-default swaps from regulation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Credit-default swaps took down AIG, which has cost the U.S. $150 billion thus far.

because both are so terrible, just in different ways. In some respects Cruz is scarier because he is an extreme ideologue, and he's probably smarter than Trump. Trump is a bombastic, egomaniacal demagogue but he doesn't have any particular ideology - he just wants fame and glory and will say whatever he thinks will get him elected. I can't imagine either of them as president.

Either way, the repigs have brought this on themselves with all their racist/xenophic/lgbt-phobic/non-xian dogwhistles. Of course they deserve it, but we will probably all suffer in the process.

But hopefully they act so bad that they lose for as long as We lost after 68, with no carterlike reprieve.
