This isn't about the primaries erring on safe side here...what would it take for a new party to form

let's get real, winner take all systems (US/UK) largely endorse 2 party systems

but at this point it's almost where there is Republican-teaparty=GOP Republican-center/Dino=dnc (i'm leaving B outta this)

what would it take for people to create a truly 'left' party at the core, one not owned by big money?

say...one where:
'social security is untouchable'
pension is a thing that's possible for the majority if not all of people
healthcare you can afford to USE is a right
a living wage...for 40-50 hour work...is a right
tax cuts to rich and corps are not a right!
equal rights no matter color, religion, race, gender identification, nationality (if you are an immigrant)
women's(and men's) right to their own bodies
that puts workers over bosses

for starters
cause i see a lot of 'democrats' on this site preaching against above point is just posted

so i'm wondering, where is the democratic place now?

many R-moderate R-lite D-Right Dino and similar now identify as 'democrats' but keep their opinions
and whilst a big tent is a nice thing.....soon enough D will mean Tea partier if the side stepping frequently done to the right continues

...you would have to build a nationwide organization that reaches all the way down to the prescient level. That requires a huge organization, lots of people and a lot of money just to build the organization. None of the existing minority parties have even made the effort from what I can see. They just run somebody for president every four years and then piss and moan because they can't get any traction.

but most of us can see that D has moved pretty Center-left, center, center-right, in some cases even center 'moderate'

where as R has moved Teaparty and past

so....if the existing ones won't do something, as a grassroot base (and DU is one) ...shouldn't we?

...it's a question of will we. And I don't think we will. It's not something that can be done quickly, it would take years, possibly decades to put together a nationwide organization that would be competitive with the R's and D's.

And I don't think it will be necessary.

Politics is cyclical, the pendulum swings back and forth. Forces are moving to swing the country back to the left. Obama in 2008, and now Bernie are encouraging signs. And even if Bernie loses his bid for the nomination, but it will be close and he and his delegates will have an impact on the convention and the party platform. And Bernie has inspired a host of progressive candidates down ticket. A Democratic majority in the House and Senate with a large progressive caucus will push HRC to the left; it won't turn her into Bernie or Warren but it will shift her left. And with all the polling showing that the millennials are abandoning religion I expect a major shift leftward in the next 2 election cycles.
