Yeah, I know, it can't possibly happen. There are too many sane people in this country to let that happen.
But what if it turns out that there are enough insane people, and ignorant people, and mindless Republicans, and just plain fascists to elect him? What do we do?
Go to another country? No place on this planet will be safe with Trump's finger on the nuke button.
Hope that the military establishment overthrows him before he can do any real damage? Sorry, i just don't have faith in people who are trained to follow orders.
Pray? Good luck with that delusion.
So let me repeat my question. What do we do?

(46,020 posts)All he has to do is convince voters not to choose HRC. Doesn't matter is she's a candidate for sainthood. Trump demonizes, not merely criticizes. It's fast and furious.
My choice of evil is ABT.

(24,692 posts)The two are not the same. One attacks a republican candidate and how we would react to his hypothetical election. Certainly an appropriate topic for GD. The other pits one Democratic candidate against another. More suited to GD-P.

(14,449 posts)I think it's possible. But let's just vote Hillary to be safe.

My grandma used to tell me that. I never tried it, but I have a suspicion about the outcome.

I don't think they have any incentive to steal it for Trump.

(3,733 posts)Trump doesn't scare me nearly as much as Ted Cruz.
Trump will be about the same as Arnold was in California and Ventura was in Minnesota.
With Trump it will have that reality show feel to it. But he's not going
to do anything past being a blow hard.
Then in 2 years when he still hasn't
Built the wall
Imprisoned all the democrats
Made it illegal to not be a white Christian male
Restored America to the 1950s
His base will hate his guts and the GOP will be splintered worse than ever.
I said in 2004 that the worst thing that could happen to the GOP was Dubya winning a 2nd term.
That turned out to be correct.
The only thing I can imagine that would be worse for them than Dubya is Trump.

(15,027 posts)play by any rules, no less the Constitution? He'll make it up as he goes along and no one will stop him.
Having said that, I believe that Cruz may be even a larger danger. The GOP will fight Trump. They'll go along with whatever insane path Cruz chooses to take.

(3,733 posts)He'll give lots of press conferences where he'll say idiotic shit.
When he tries to actually do any of it he'll hit the brick wall
of a gridlocked congress.
He'll try to govern by decree and Twitter.
In real life that's not going to work.

(65,616 posts)But what if we are wrong? We fight. We will have to, since Trump and Cruz will try their best to get progressives thrown into the same labor camps as Muslims and Atheists. They will probably label us all as Marxists.

(15,027 posts)In my more rational moments, I just don't believe there are enough crazies out there to elect Trump or Cruz.
But who knows?
Nonetheless, I'm keeping my passport up to date, although I really don't know any spot on the planet that would be safe from them.
However, if it human destiny is to be destroyed by some madman, let me say that the real blame lies with the hatred generated by the Republican Party, and ignorance of the American voters.

(12,409 posts)Reagan had a chance. He was a "Hollywood" actor that who's most famous role was shared with a chimp. It was laughable that he could win, even more so than Trump.
It took an event in the middle east, Iran hostages, to swing things his way; an event he himself exacerbated illegally, to turn the tide.
Beware the fickle nature of the American electorate.

(15,027 posts)Reagan's people dealing with the Iranians to not free th hostages until Reagan was elected in 1980, will be general knowledge some day. And Reagan and his minions will be seen as the criminals they were.
But for right now, that's not what this thread is about
Trump and Cruz are far, far more dangerous than Reagan.

(3,733 posts)Reagan also wasn't a buffoon
I disagreed with Reagans politics but he did have politics.
Trump just yells in sound bites that resemble word salad.
I'm not even sure if he's able to read teleprompter. He's certainly been unwilling to do that so far.
Trumps policies can be boiled down to 3 words.
LOOK AT ME.
He wouldn't actually try to do the majority of the job.
Cyrano
(15,027 posts)was a puppet controlled by others.
Trump is far more toxic. And add to the words "LOOK AT ME" the words "OR ELSE." Do you really want to take the chance "He wouldn't try to do the majority of his job."? I, for one, don't think he knows what the job is. And I really don't want to take the risk that "the job" is whatever Trump thinks it is.

(3,733 posts)That's why I'll vote for the Democrat in November.

(373 posts)Fact # 1 He can not get the electoral votes necessary for a win. Current estimates are around 160.
Fact #2 He needs at least 46% of the Latino vote to win the general election. That does not include the African American vote.
So quit listening to cable noise and clueless pundits, you'll live better and might even learn something.
