Trump And Clinton Viewed Unfavorably By Majority: CBS/NYT Poll

By Anthony Salvanto, Fred Backus, Jennifer De Pinto, Sarah Dutton

More than half of the states have held a primary or caucus, and registered voters nationwide now hold negative opinions of the political parties' current frontrunners. More than half of voters have unfavorable views of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump; each has a net negative rating in the double-digits.

Compared to frontrunners in previous presidential primary races, Trump and Clinton's unfavorable ratings (57 percent and 52 percent respectively) are the highest in CBS News/New York Times Polls going back to 1984, when CBS began asking this question.

Perhaps, not surprisingly, most Democrats have negative views of Trump and a majority of Republicans view Clinton unfavorably. But more than half of independents have unfavorable views of both candidates. Clinton is viewed more positively by members of her own party than Trump is by his. Six in 10 Democrats have a favorable opinion of Clinton; just about half of Republicans have a favorable opinion of Trump.

It's going to lead to an extremely low turnout if she's the nominee.

What is wrong with DU lately where every thread is a chance to bash a Democrat?

Maybe you would prefer Trump?

Frankly Trump has a ceiling. Clinton has shown that people like her. When she's not running for office. (Most admired woman for a record number of years.)

She might be your candidate, but she certainly isn't my candidate or our candidate.

Politicians like her are precisely the problem in our country. They claim to have the best interest of middle-America at heart, but in reality they only follow what the wealthy and corporations tell them to follow. I, for one, cannot forgive her for her Iraq war vote. I'm 36 years old and totally and permanently disabled as a result of my combat experiences in that war. I joined the Army as a stupid kid when I was 17 years old (my parents had to sign a waiver for me to join that young) in 1997. I honestly believed that we had learned our lessons from Vietnam and I foolishly thought that politicians would use the military to make the world a better place. In fact, that is why I joined. I wanted to make the world a better place. Instead, my heart and good will was taken advantage of by politicians like Hillary Clinton. She voted for the war because it was, at the time, considered the popular thing to do and then she claimed more than 10 years later that it was a mistake as it was the popular thing to do then. However, in 2008 she still was steadfast with her support for the war saying "I have nothing to be sorry for" in regards to her Iraq war vote.

Hell, I have tons to be sorry for - and I never supported that war from the start. I've shot people, killed people, stuffed people into body bags, fought off grieving families, lost friends and fellow soldiers killed in the war too. Unless you've done this yourself, you have no idea what any of this is like. It's haunting and freaky when you look into the eyes of dead people or when you watch people you shot grovel on the ground while they bleed to death. You can act macho and say it'll have no impact on your - but it will.

I was an Infantry platoon leader for 13 months in that war and I own everything that my platoon did and failed to do. To me, the burden of command has left a lifelong mark. To Hillary Clinton and the other supporters of that war, other than maybe some political ramifications, they haven't had to endure the least bit of suffering from the war they perpetrated. Maybe when I see that she has scars like I have of multiple suicide attempts as the demons of that war live strong in her head like they do mine then maybe I'll believe her sincerity when she says that she is "sorry". The war never had any impact on her, her kids, her marriage, or even her livelihood and life. I typically spend roughly 25-35% of any given year locked up in a psych ward. The majority of the rest of the time I'm not in a psych ward I'm totally miserable, suicidal, and wishing that I was either back on patrol in Iraq where I can (hopefully) be killed or back in the psych ward.

I'm sure Hillary Clinton never has to experience anything like that. I'm sure she doesn't have flashbacks, nightmares, or any type of anxiety attack on a daily basis from her part in the war. I doubt she spends hours a day attending various therapy and psychiatric appointments or that she takes many handfuls a day of 6 different psych meds to keep her from falling apart any more. Honestly I have no reason to stay alive other than that if I were dead my family wouldn't get my fat disability check from the government. My relationship with my wife and kids is crap, they are nothing but mad and aggravated at me for my consistent failures in day-to-day life. Hillary Clinton doesn't experience any of that. Her daughter (who happens to be the same age as me) never had to deal with any of that either.

No, Hillary Clinton isn't "our" candidate. I want nothing to do with her or be associated with her in any manner. To add even more insult to injury she and her husband are all chummy with the bush family. So how bad is she going to speak of her friends or how likely is she to attack anything that they supported?

She is an awful awful awful candidate and doesn't at all deserve to get any closer to the Whitehouse than Trump. So, again, Hillary isn't "my" candidate or "our" candidate.
