(616 posts)If this kind of statistic was happening anywhere else, Fox News would be all over it. They'd be demanding "boots on the ground."

(5,417 posts)No reason to be outraged until summer when the shootings really go up.

(3,109 posts)A few years ago shootings were WAY down due to the brutal cold we had in Jan and Feb. The spring and early summer was incredibly bloody that year.

(21,691 posts)This is mostly disorganized gang violence, which is the product of poverty, which is born out of institutionalized racism. It's easy to hate gangs, but it isn't one gang; its dozens if not hundreds of little pissant gangs and their hyper-macho codes of family and honor and a lot of bad shooting. When a gang member shoots another gang member, cops and civilians tend to think "NHI" ("no humans involved" until a bullet hits a baby, but not taking those other shootings seriously leads to shot babies.
Chicago police are infamous for beating out confessions and closing cases with randomly selected suspects; even honest citizens avoid them at all cost to avoid being the convenient solution to a crime if they happen to fit the description.
The easiest fix? Flush Chicago PD and get honest cops.
The real fix? Honest cops, good policing, real equal opportunities, decent schools, a true hope for a good future.
