(1,000 posts)and yes I know that threats are not part of free speech but venting frustration sure is. Unless the threat is actually credible, what these actions are really doing is narrowing the legal space for free expression of opinion.
I could threaten to conquer China and be pretty sure that the Chinese military won't be planning for the event.

(51,308 posts)That is just stupid.
Besides the fact, no one should threaten to kill anyone. Ever.

(1,000 posts)it's also foolish to be arresting people who are just venting and have no actual plans to do anything

(51,308 posts)Are you for real? Making death threats is "venting"? I've vented a lot in my life, and I've never threatened to kill anyone.
If I was a public figure and my life was threatened, I'd sure as hell expect whoever made those threats to face consequences.

(24 posts)not too smart. This kid is going to learn quick you don't threaten to kill people especially a presidential candidate under SS protection.

(112,070 posts)I'm not making any income from the site whatsoever. The site is there because I want to spread news that Democrats are concerned about (primarily legislation and governance) as I did in the Texas Group for the last few years. Occasionally I'll post something outside those areas if I encounter other things interesting in the media or from my Facebook page.
There may come a time in the future when I will decide to derive income from the site, but in the meantime it will only create complications in other aspects of my life if I try to profit from the site. If I decide to make money from the site then I will no longer post links to it on DU since it would be unethical for me to promote it here and it would be a violation of the Terms of Service.
As bad as my financial situation is, I've never asked anyone for money in the open forums on DU. I have no intention of asking for contributions from DU after what I saw happen to a couple of people here last year. I've only accepted two contributions from DU members when they contacted me via PM and made offered to assist when they learned about my personal circumstances. The first offer I accepted was used to pay to reconnect my phone and pay for insulin after I left the homeless shelter and the second one was after this past Christmas to pay my phone bill for one month because I was trying to relieve some pressure from my brother.
