A Post/ABC national poll this month asked: Which of these do you think is a bigger problem in this country blacks and Hispanics losing out because of preferences for whites, or whites losing out because of preferences for blacks and Hispanics?...
No word on why Trump supporters feel that this is the case possibly the election (twice!) of a black man to the presidency. Perhaps because Latinos, the fastest-growing Democratic voting bloc, have rejected the Republican Partys politics of hate and fear. Or maybe its just because The Donald said so. The answer remains a mystery.
But hey, maybe the Supreme Court could help make America great again by fully restoring the Voting Rights Act.

(1,048 posts)The power structure in this country and the laws in this country are still designed and carried out in favor of White Christians, particularly White, Christian, Heterosexual men. So if they are losing then who is winning? Not the Black community with its incarceration rates and continued disparities in all SES categories. Not Latinos who fare somewhat but not much better in those areas. The halls of power are still run by White men. Whether its politics or business I need to know what the deal is. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the 8 years of the Black President that we have had; a President for which many of the GOP thinks is a Kenyan born Muslim Manchurian Candidate set on destroying the US and putting us into Sharia Law and unleashing his Muslim brethren on us. Well, with less than a year to go he sure is moving awfully slow if thats his plan.
I'm sorry I can't. This is about the fear of the browning of America. That Latinos are the majority minority, that Asians are expanding in their population as well and they trend Dem, that African Americans are never at this rate going to give the Republicans more than 10% of the vote, and this fear that the Black and Brown people are taking over is what is driving all of this. There is such a sense of entitlement that I see from Trump supporters, and sorry not sorry but I see it from some Sanders supporters too. If you support Sanders but then say you are going to support Trump is Sanders loses the nomination then you support the same sort of ideology.
Well said and to the point.

(6,342 posts)Whites control the vast amount of wealth in this world (not just the country). And that's not under threat at all. In fact, whites at the top have expanded their wealth under Obama, and likely will further expand it under Hillary. I assure you those white hedge fund managers and bankers on Wall Street won't sweat a bit if Hillary is elected. In fact, they might actually be more afraid that Trump would end up starting a trade war.
So racial identity politics is not what these people are angry about.
The only exception may be white middle class, blue collar workers. These are people who may feel their jobs are under attack by foreigners, immigration, and trade deals. And tell you the truth, the Democratic party has done an horrible job with this group. And that's why they are the most vulnerable, typical Democratic voters that could jump to Trump.
As for racists and misogynists and religious nuts...they have always been part of the far-right. For decades or centuries even. That's not something new. They didn't just suddenly form because a black man is in the White House. They have always existed.
