Seriously - does he have a check list of allies he thinks it is necessary to offend?

what decade does he think he is in?
does he still think Sony's are cheap "made in Japan" electronics. And we still have American made TVs?

(4,762 posts)Took me back to the days when a Japanese car was called a "rice burner" in the Midwest when Japan kicked Detroit's ass for quality and price in the 80s.
Sony makes some of the best video equipment in the world, Donald. Cheap TVs are made in Malaysia and Mexico. Anything actually made in Japan is as well crafted as *anything* made in the US and Germany. And priced accordingly.
edhopper
(33,479 posts)still call Japanese bikes rice burners.
Agree about Japanese quality.

They're watching Korean TVs made in China the same way we are.
Trump has obviously spent the last 30 years waddling around, kissing his own ass and missing everything going on in the world.

(33,992 posts)He's been talking about nuclear bombs the last few days; the anniversary of uur next to last use of nuclear weapons against a country was yesterday - of course he's going to trash Japan. (The content of his talk is also a pretty direct reference to the constitutional anti-war stance that arose out of Japan's experience as the target of the only nuclear weapon attacks on a country and its civilians.)

(18,187 posts)so he may have had Japan on his mind.
I also read that Trump said that the Japanese constitution forbids the deployment of Japanese troops in foreign lands.
Therefore (according to Trump), if Japan were attacked, we would send troops to help them. If we were attacked, Japan could just stay home and watch their Sony televisions.
This all presupposes that Trump is correct in his reading of the treaty AND the Japanese constitution.

(101,266 posts)See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Self-Defense_Forces#Peacekeeping
The treaty with the US was written long before that, so it's true it's about joint defence only in the area of Japan: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Mutual_Cooperation_and_Security_between_the_United_States_and_Japan
But a new agreement for full mutual defence with the USA would requite changing the constitution, and that brings up the objections of China and South Korea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_9_of_the_Japanese_Constitution
It's a tricky diplomatic situation, and not something Trump would have a clue how to negotiate, or what the stakes would be.

(3,860 posts)Japan started a war with Russia in 1904 over their influence on the Asian mainland, and Russia grabbed some Japanese islands during the second World War and refused to give them back. They're both still pissed at each other.
Perhaps Putin is writing Trump's foreign policy agenda.

(118,492 posts)with himself that he follows it wherever it goes.. all the way to Japan. He would be the anti NATO president. He would self indulge his own original ideas the whole time he was president. To prove to himself he is a genius. Which is what Putin called him. And is how Putin has control of him. Which makes him not a genius but a patsy. Like I've said before: Trump should be a muse. Not a president.
