http://www.thegailygrind.com/2016/08/17/flood-destroys-home-of-hate-group-leader-who-claims-god-sends-natural-disasters-to-punish-gays/Perkins, who has claimed that God uses natural disasters such as hurricanes and flooding to punish people for sinning (in particular homosexuals and their supporters), had his own home destroyed by the Lord Almighty. The hate group leader says he was forced to escape his destroyed home by canoe, reports JMG.
Perkins called into his own radio show to talk about the disaster of biblical proportions that, according to Perkins, will force his family to live in a camper for the six months it will take to rebuild his home.
Perkins claims that God sent this deadly flood not to punish the gays but rather as an incredible, encouraging spiritual exercise to take you to the next level in your walk with an almighty and gracious God who does all things well. In fact, he urges Christians to rejoice that God considers them worthy of suffering for his sake.
So it turns out Row v. Wade was all about how the little hatemonger was gonna get out of there.

(53,944 posts)Nor clever.
Homophobes can be straight, most actually are. Also, by implying he is gay, you are affirming this bigot's idea that G-d punishes gay men.
rickford66
(5,523 posts)I'm criticizing the religious right's idea of God punishing gays. Either the guy is gay or God doesn't punish gays. Either way the guy has a problem.
Behind the Aegis
(53,944 posts)LGBT make up about 10% of the population; that's all of us together. So, no, the odds are he is a HETEROSEXUAL who is also a rabid HOMOPHOBE.
Now, I want you to re-read your statement, and think about it...really think about it:
Either the guy is gay or God doesn't punish gays. Either way the guy has a problem.
I am sure it was unintentional, but the verbiage seems to suggest "being gay" is a problem. Also, just because he believes G-d uses weather to punish gays, as indicated by his remarks, he seems to have a caveat.
It is offensive to suggest male homophobes are "secretly gay" as it is, IMO, doubly homophobic in that it releases heterosexuals, especially men, of being homophobes, and that homophobia is "really a gay problem." A very small percentage of homophobes are acting out of sublimated homosexual desires, most are nothing more than run-of-the-mill bigots!
rickford66
(5,523 posts)If the guy is gay, his problem is condemning others and not living his own life. Obviously being gay is not a problem. If he isn't gay, then his religious teachings are flat out wrong and is a different problem.
Nitram
(22,781 posts)First of all, conservatives in denial about being gay are frequently the most aggressive homophobes. Secondly, the guys problem is not that he's gay, it's that he's in denial about being gay. You can get off your high horse now and stop trying to score points.
Behind the Aegis
(53,944 posts)If you are going to straightsplain to me, then you show me some hardcore stats, you know, FACTS. How do YOU know he is in denial about being gay? Where is your PROOF?
You like to 'splain things to gay people, then you should have the facts to back it up!

Behind the Aegis
(53,944 posts)You were the one who claimed I had my facts wrong, so the "burden of proof" is on you, not [I/]me. So, couldn't find any facts? Let's see your proof that your claim "Incorrect on multiple counts, Aegis." can be substantiated. All you have done is say I am wrong, and proved nothing. My claim that there are more heterosexuals, is factually correct, therefore, the conclusion Perkins has a greater chance of being straight bears truth. You have proof to show otherwise? Produce it.

In many rural areas of the South, radio stations are few and far, as I know all too well, to the point I don't even use the car radio around here.
But get near the cities and radio works well.
And the listners do send that money in. It's amazing.

(70,483 posts)Schadenfreude (/ˈʃɑːdənfrɔɪdᵊ/; German: [ˈʃaːdn̩ˌfʁɔɪdə] ( listen); lit. 'harm-joy') is pleasure derived from the misfortune of others. Borrowed from German into English and several other languages, it is a feeling of joy that comes from seeing or hearing about another person's troubles or failures. It is similar in meaning to the English term "to gloat" (which has no noun equivalent), meaning to express pleasure or self-satisfaction at one's own success or at another's failure.[1]

(356 posts)the wrath of God to punish those of us who are gay. He specifically attacks the LBGTQ community.
So when his house is flooded out and sane people throw his words in his face, it's considered wrong? Are we displaying hate as he does so many times?
This man prayed for people's lives to be destroyed and has now suffered the most appropriate form of karma, therefore I feel like rejoicing and thanking the Creator for doling out his punishment in a manner I feel is appropriate.
Besides his preaching of hate towards the LGBTQ communities, it's sinful, IMHO, that he and others like him aren't shut down for hate speech. They incite physical and emotional harm to others they deem sinners.

(5,810 posts)That destroys all of your worldly possessions and takes many lives, it is punishment meted out by a very angry god. When you're a "man or woman serving a mighty god " who have the same natural disaster you should take that as a sign that your so-called loving god is simply testing you and that it will build your strength of character. You were CHOSEN for this journey. Indeed, you should consider it an honor.

(53,944 posts)Taking him at his word is just as fucking stupid as pretending his claim makes him gay because his home was destroyed. The POS even gave a caveat as to why his and other homes were destroyed. I am sick of every HETERO homophobe getting labeled a "secret gay". I don't give a shit what he has said in the past, it is stupid to say G-d destroyed homes because of gays, and it is just a fucking stupid to maintain male homophobes are really homos!

Behind the Aegis
(53,944 posts)The hypocrisy in this case is not closeted homosexuality, it is his shifting morals. He is not gay. There are no "allegations" from the past. So, claiming the gay jokes are about hypocrisy is incorrect, and nothing but a cover for so-called progressives to make jokes at the expense of gays.
I don't need heterosexuals to straightsplain to me what is and isn't homophobic.
