(58,785 posts)Note that while HRC's favorability ratings have plummeted into negative figures both times she's run for president, they stayed in positive ranges when she served as SoS and as a U.S. senator. She wasn't breaking any new ground there.

(58,619 posts)It's sad, but maybe it is necessary to bring the cockroaches out into the light to expose their bigotry. And I'm including misogyny as a form of bigotry, because it is. It is hate, plain and simple, born of fear.

They're always going to scream and cry and go on the attack. So we might as well keep them out of power.

(70,480 posts)I know new generations are taught to hate too but hopefully the %s of the population
who carry this toxic load will decline too. The sight of HRC being sworn in as POTUS
should be good for a few thousand heart attacks and or strokes.
BTW I don't know if this figure is correct but I was told that the GOP has spent over $400
million in trying to take down the Clintons.

(3,580 posts)That we were going to either have the 1st black or 1st female president I thought the right wing is going to go berserker. I say let's elect the 1st female president and finish them off. They will create their own destruction.

(9,258 posts)Just like PBO brought the racists out of the woodwork, HRC is already firing up the inner misogyny of countless assholes. Just look at FB references to "cankles", "shrill", "c*nt" etc.
Quite possibly the saving grace here is that over half the population is female.

(13,616 posts)that is precisely WHY we need to ignore and if need be run right over the Conservative Trolls. They are trying to send us a message that electing people not white men only leads to more punishment, which is why they love parroting the Jill Steins, Ralph Naders, and others who push that message even they they are too arrogant to admit they are helping the GOP when they say shit like that.

(8,692 posts)You could elect the whitest guy in the country, lets call him Chet Van Buren, lets make him from somewhere in the deep south while we're at it and with lots of dopey pictures of him in camouflage with a gun hoisting a dead animal.
I don't think much would have been different, birtherism would have just been substituted with some other phony conspiratorial scandal.
Will attacks on Hillary Clinton be misogynistic? Probably.
Would absolutely anyone else be attacked less or in a less vile manner than Obama and Clinton have been? Probably Not.

(21,739 posts)All they can do is use Fox and the RW media to hype what a disaster any Dem would be. Obama was AA so they used that. Hillary is a woman, so they will use that too. Always claiming it will be a total disaster for the country.l
In reality, the biggest disaster for this country has been a white man named George.

(8,043 posts)we'll see a massive surge in actual physical violence against people of color, women, immigrants, people with disabilities...
Having a president who openly encourages violence against "the other" is bound to energize the unhinged among us.
Hell, his campaign is doing that already. Look at the violence at his rallies.
Imagine having a president (who appoints the attorney general) who longs for the good old days when "people like that would be carried out on a stretcher." Every wannabe Zimmerman will be out there looking for a chance to be a "patriot."
We HAVE to defeat this man.

(9,527 posts)The racism was always there, but that having Obama as President made them willing to let that out. I think the same will happen when Clinton wins.
But again, the underlying sentiment that black people, or Hispanics, or women (or any group that isn't conservative, straight white males) are lesser was already there. The talk about black voters being kept on the Democratic plantation, or women and "legitimate rape" didn't start with Obama or Clinton.

(53,521 posts)The Internet and "nerd culture" has become awash is unabashed literal misogyny, the Neo-Fascist and Libertarian Techie alt-right literally wants women to be property, again.

(36,439 posts)Misogyny will rear it's ugly head in the same way bigotry did when President Obama became president. I put some blame on Palin & her racist innuendo, but even more blame on the media for not calling her out on it. And for the past 7.5 years, the media has been mostly silent on the racist attacks on Prez O, which lends a sort of cultural acceptance to that kind of behavior & expression of bigotry. The diff between '08 & now is noticeable. The bigots feel empowered because no one has put these nasty pieces of shit in their proper place & they are starting from an even lower point, this time.
While I have my criticisms of both Obama & Clinton, he has handled the abhorrent disrespect with grace & sometimes humor, & I know HRC will do the same.

(3,127 posts)More than half of our population is women. And they aren't concentrated in a few states or big cities. They're everywhere.
This isn't a battle that the lunatic right can win. Remember what happened to Limbaugh when he went after Sandra Fluke. He took a hit that he's never recovered from.
And here's the great part. They won't be able to resist. Like moths to a flame.

(47,545 posts)I don't think you can get away with outright misogyny ("legitimate rape", anyone?) on a national level anymore.
Sexism? Yeah. Unfortunately.
Straight up misogyny? I don't think so. At least I hope not. But when they try it, I'll fight it.
