Navy Says A Ballistic-Missile Submarine And A Support Vessel Collided Off The Coast Of Washington

BANGOR, Wash. — The Navy says a ballistic-missile submarine and a support vessel collided off the coast of Washington state.

There were no injuries from the Thursday evening incident in the Strait of Juan de Fuca involving the Louisiana and the offshore support vessel. In a statement the Navy said the collision occurred during routine operations. A submarine of the same class, the Pennsylvania, is pictured above.

Damage assessments are being conducted and both vessels returned to port under their own power - the support vessel to Port Angeles, Washington, and the submarine to Naval Base Kitsap.

An investigation is ongoing.

This one seems to be little more than a fender-bender, but it's gonna cost time and money to hammer the dents out, weld things back together, and make other repairs.

The captain at fault here isn't going to be a captain anymore...

The two leaders will basically be taken out of the promotion process. They'll have to re-adjust their priorities and plans. Odds are good the people on watch will be screwed, too.

ADM Nimitz grounded his ship while on watch as an ensign...it gets better, he was COURTS MARTIALED for hazarding a vessel--but lucky for America, they were more forgiving back then.

I'm sure a few hapless schmucks on duty will be removed from the competitive pool, too--the smaller the field, the better your shot!

I am using here... but only just. We haven't seen a large USN in many decades, and it's competitive. For every poor slob crying, there are others who are anticipating....
