Yes, back to the 20th Century. The White Pages where one could find a phone number of someone, a land line.
Have not heard from an elderly member of a discussion group. He is usually quite active so email him will not get me anywhere. Though I probably should try.
I know the city where he lives so decided to check the White Pages. He is there, but when I click on the phone link, or address, I am getting court and bankruptcies and god knows what other "reports" but not the address nor the phone number. Which, I think, were I in his city I could have just leafed through the guide.
Who cares about court reports and bankruptcies and other "public information" which is none of my business?

(7,496 posts)They *might* give you a phone number, but their goal is for you to pay or subscribe for a detailed report based on government info or database info.
Use the paper white pages, or possibly superpages.com has the least annoying search. If it doesn't pop up for free, it wouldn't be in the white pages. I searched for myself under the People dropdown on superpages with my name and zip code and it found my publicly available land line and approximate address.

(7,681 posts)That's not like the actual white pages, it's just a people finder site like Intelius. Selling those reports is what they do.

(5,325 posts)Just like an old white pages phone book. And then if you wanted to get more info than that, you could go through their "premium" service or through one of their "affiliates". No more, apparently.

(11,843 posts)After I have asked them not to. To add injury to insult, it was raining heavily that day, so I had to pick up the heavy, wet phone book and dispose of it. Stupid newspaper does the same thing every Sunday, a plastic bag of advertising get thrown into my driveway, despite my repeated requests not to litter.

(47,265 posts)I had a bad feeling, He was 88, I think. She will be 90 next month.
He passed away 10 days ago.
Still, I am glad that I wondered and found out.
