You know what's really scary?

Apart from the obvious, of course.

I'm prompted to write this after reading a post about some insanity in Hawaii.

What's frightening is that the kind of hatred, bigotry, racism, Islamophobia, sexism, misogyny and more that has erupted in recent months has always been there, but somehow contained or restrained because we lived in a civil society.

No more. The vileness cannot be swept back under the rock. This is who and what we are now. And no one on the right seems able, willing, or interested in tamping it down. And unless that sort of leadership arises, there will be gridlock in washing for decades to come.

as we've seen it for the last 7+ years, but the uncivility will grow and grow and grow, and as you say, 'unless that sort of leadership arises,'

Rw radio hate, telling you how bad you are and who is to blame...

The internet, where pitiful hateful assholes can get together to share ideas with each other whom they normally would never have met. The "comment section-ing" of America, where people get used to making the most horrible comments online and think it's ok to act the same way in public.

The ever politicizing of religion, where churches practically campaign for repugnant jerks and convince their flock (how apropos) that the Sky God wants them to vote for...

Sure, hate and racism have been around forever, I think that a lot of the New Dumb has been sown and reaped.

I keep thinking how much different things could be were it not for just a few people. Murdoch, ailes, and fox, Limbaugh, Falwell and his successors.
