Set aside, for a second, that Trump probably lied about talking to a Chicago cop. End crime there in a week? With what? Stormtroopers?
The Chicago Police Department on Tuesday denied Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's claim that he met with a "top" Chicago officer and argued the city's violence would not be solved with "tough police tactics."
"We've discredited this claim months ago," CPD spokesperson Frank Giancamilli said in a statement. "No one in the senior command at CPD has ever met with Donald Trump or a member of his campaign."
Trump said in an interview Monday that he believed Chicago's violence could be stopped using "tough police tactics," telling Fox News' Bill O'Reilly that he met a "top" Chicago officer who reportedly said he could "stop much of this horror show thats going on" within a single week.
Trump added that he knows officers in Chicago who would put an end to violent crime "if they were given the authority to do it," a claim that Giancamilli refuted.

I simply cannot watch him.
There is also a certain amount of madness in the granting of legitimacy to his campaign by the media establishment. I find it surreal, at times.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)I mean, it's a blatant, out-and-out lie, not one word of which gets into the same area code as the truth. The popular media are always on the lookout for ways to draw viewers, listeners and readers, aren't they? Wouldn't airing a little controversy be a good way to get their ratings up?

(3,263 posts)media the police said it was unsafe and made him cancel. They made multiple statements after the rally saying the trump campaign cancelled and they never declared it unsafe AND not given the decision ahead of time
No thought by the trump campaign to giving police the decision ahead of time to coordinate the exit of hundreds from the convention rally . Which put cops at the rally in danger as they were caught off guard by the rush of opposing forces. Things would have been a lot calmer if they had worked with the police force and not used them as an excuse to cancel
I do believe he actually loses voters with his lies lies lies
