Trump Campaign Manager Fumbles Through Searing Interview With Maddow (VIDEO)

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/maddow-interview-kellyanne-conway-muslim-ban-regrets

Talking Points Memo.
Allegra Kirkland, Published 6:56 AM ET, 8/25/16

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Wednesday peppered Donald Trump’s newly-minted campaign manager with questions on everything from his choice to campaign in states where he’s ahead to his changing position on banning Muslim immigrants from the U.S., observing that much of the fallout from Trump’s campaign has been the candidate’s own doing.

Kellyanne Conway gamely sat through the marathon interview that stretched to 45 minutes, but did not seem to convince Maddow that the Republican nominee was trying to make the presidential race about “substance.”

“So much of this campaign and campaign coverage has been content-free cacophony, like no substance being discussed, and I think that's a shame for the voters,” Conway said at the start of the conversation.

“Some of the cacophony has been because your candidate has picked some unusual fights, because he has conducted himself as a candidate in a way that other campaigns haven't,” Maddow replied.

Pushing Conway for specifics on what Trump meant when he last week expressed “regrets” for causing “personal pain” to some voters, Maddow asked if the Republican nominee would apologize to the federal judge whose Mexican heritage he criticized and to the parents of a slain Muslim American soldier who he attacked.

Although Kellyanne Conway was clearly in over her head, I thought Rachel went soft on her. "Searing" was not how I would describe it at all.

I think Rachel was setting up Trump to come on her show. If she had overwhelmed Kellyanne, it would never happen. Trump would be too afraid to come on. In his ego driven mind, he must be led to believe he'll get the better of Rachel. That's when the fun will begin. At least, I hope so.

He has retreated to the safety of the Fox noise bunker of the duration. Her time would have been better spent actually living up to the title of this thread. To be honest, I thought Rachel underperformed.

It was like the questions were pre staged and answered with no hard facts, but were full of rhetoric. Probably, it is the only way the interview was going to happen, agreed on before? MSNBC trying to get more ratings? If Trump should ever agree to an interview, it will be more of the same BS! This the problem with to much media coverage. We have heard all the talking points for the past year and it is becoming old news for the most part.

She is a very smooth liar and Rachel let her know that mild regret statement wasn't enough.

Kellyanne is a great appointment by Trump because she's speaking to suburban white women to help them pretend it doesn't matter that he linked up with the racist Breitbart gang.

Kellyanne had to pivot to criticizing Hillary when she couldn't answer Rachel's questions.

She was a very smooth liar.

The thing which is frustrating? The fact that the interviewer does not know to handle it 95% of the time..

Unfortunately the different words do not describe the same policy but rather it`s opposite

Different words, samey same As if antonyms are synonyms because I say so

The Trump campaign is semantically challenged to the point, I believe, that they don`t know what they are saying from one minute to the next

They are as delusional as they are cynical

The MSM has provided him and his minions unrestricted access to spew their propaganda totally unchallenged. I am totally perplexed when they interview the token Black or Hispanic and allow them to spew their support of a person who represents a party that has striven to suppress their vote with unfounded claims that they are combating voter fraud. Time and time again I have suffered through watching these travesties in which the MSM reviewer doesn't offer even a hint of condemnation of outright lies. The Fourth Establishment is nothing more than a sham. A total complete failure.

She'd let Conway dig a hole, and then gently push her into it.

A great example was the "extreme vetting" segment. Basically, Rachel got Conway to say that Trump's "extreme vetting" was just like the "Red scare" from decades ago ... and Conway fell for it because she had no idea what it was.

If you watch the interview closely, you can see this pattern repeat. It was more subtle than searing.

And by not crushing Conway like a bug ... Rachel keeps the potential for a visit from Don the con open. If she crushed her, Donny could claim victim status.

Rachel asked all the right questions (why Mississippi, why no substance etc.) - there were really no answers/responses.

Weird thing Kelly Anne kept saying - come to the tower, join us at the tower - referencing Maddow doing Trump interview at Trump Tower.
