but as they dig through the rubble, more are likely to be found.

Unreinforced masonry is deadly.

in a hilltop town south of Bari.

The house was built in the 14th Century, as were most of the homes in the historic center of town.

They would not stand up well to an earthquake.

and still retain any of its charm. Let's hope there are no earthquakes there.

I also hope earthquakes are taken into account when the villages that were destroyed this time are rebuilt. They will be rebuilt, there is something in the Italian character that is very attached to places. See: the area around Vesuvius.

and a month didn't go by without feeling tremors in Lima.

You could see the chronology of building codes and technologies in the areas hit by even small quakes.

Newer homes built to seismic standards still standing, others reduced to rubble.
