But unfortunately, just as there are people who want to outlaw burquinis, there are also self-described "progressives" who want to outlaw the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

And so it goes...

And I have had the distinct privilege of arguing on those threads. Haha
Do you mean you've seen the outlaw argument made somewhere other than DU?

Hell, someone called it a human rights atrocity on the scale of the cambodian killing fields, IIRC.

I dont know how big a bowl you need, for that much hyperbole.

But I'm glad everyone is reasonable and understands that if consenting adults want to wear burquinis or bathing suits-- or get naked and cover themselves in cheez whiz to enact an erotic performance of Richard III on smuttube.com, for that matter- the individual's freedom is paramount and should be respected.

Yeah, I missed the killing fields comparison. Yikes.

But, yes, I do believe in consenting adults freedom to behave poorly.

I do actually think the age of consent for porn should be raised to 21 though, but I digress.

But it didn't when I was 18, of course. I was livid that I had to wait until I was 21 to legally drink. (Not that I didn't drink)

I think part of the problem is that 18 is a reasonable age for a lot of sex-related stuff adult consent wise, because certainly it's a statistical reality that people are having sex with each other at that age, if not in High School then when they go off to college.

So to make that kind of a rule you'd have to figure out how to effectively, legally distinguish between adult consensual sex in front of a camera and off. And we already see fallout from laws as they are now when underage teenagers get charged with felonies --- for taking pictures of themselves and sending them to their boy/girlfriends. Doesn't mean the laws are wrong, but perhaps the enforcement is ill-focused. So I'm not sure how something like that would work, because if 18 year olds are having sex with each other, some of them are going to film it too.

But I actually agree with you on the philosophical point, at this point in my life 18 seems real young.

This sexting crime debacle, when it's solely between two teenagers, has gotten ridiculous. I guess it would be difficult to write and enforce a 21 year old porn restriction that didn't lead to similar ridiculousness.
