Ryan Lochte is going on Dancing with the Stars, locking down a deal in the works before his Olympic saga, a person familiar with the deal confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday.
The 23rd season of the show premieres on Sept. 12. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the addition of Lochte has not been announced publicly.
Lochte, the 12-time Olympic medalist who was condemned in media reports around the globe for exaggerating a true story, was dropped by four sponsors on Monday after authorities in Rio de Janeiro declared in a jammed press conference last week that he had fabricated a report that he and three teammates on the U.S. swim team were held up at gunpoint by men with badges.
Instead, the incident was portrayed as a case of vandalism authorities said the swimmers trashed a bathroom and urinated against the building and Lochte and Jimmy Feigen were accused of falsely claiming a robbery to cover up their misdeeds. The police said the men were detained by guards because Lochte had additionally damaged a poster.

(135,425 posts)(that make a minimum of 250K no matter how bad they suck). I know they get around 25K per episode, as well. He won't have as much pain as some of the others, who go to a boot camp and learn basic steps before starting the training, because he is already very fit.
That is a good "rehab" venue for any Bad Boy/Girl--if they work hard and present themselves well, even the biggest tool can be made to appear more sympathetic to a national audience anyway--internationally, his name will still be mud without a lot of work on that score!

(135,425 posts)And people will pooh-pooh, and turn up their noses ... and tune in! LOL!
A member of my family is HOOKED on that show, so we all watch it, on The Big TV, often as not. I don't get terribly invested in who will win and who was fairly or unfairly treated by the judges, but I do like the judges--when Len took a year off and they put one of the dancers on the panel (judging her friend from many years past and her brother, which was a bit unfair) I thought the energy went out of the program, but assuming Len comes back, with Bruno, it will be OK once again.
The counterpart program to this show in UK is called "Strictly Come Dancing." And they are WAY stricter (Len and Bruno and some other mean guy are on the panel) about form than they even are in USA. I can't help but notice that they "share" the same or similar dance routines across the pond, too. I don't see that show regularly, but I've caught it often enough to get the flavor of it. They have the same variety-pile of local B-listers and D-listers that we have, and do the same sorts of set-up pieces trying to get people to care about the outcome. It passes the time, certainly!

Dyana Nyad (long distance swimmer) and Martina Navratolova (tennis) were eliminated early.
Kristi Yamaguchi (figure skating) and Apollo Ono (speed skating) won.
Swimming doesn't make you good on your feet... skating does.

I was surprised, I figured that tennis, all that pivoting and hopping around, would make her formidable on the dance floor--but she stunk.
I think Nyad was kinda clumsy too, but I don't really remember her performances as well as MN's.

(14,449 posts)I am not near as pissed off at him as most. I wish him luck and if he changes his ways like phelps did (he did worse. Sorry two DUIs are much worse then the Brazil thing). All the best to him.

(31,802 posts)Which some don't seem to have. The U.S. does not extradite for misdemeanors. Brazil knows this and would not ask. What does Obama have to do with this? Do you really think Obama gets involved in extradition requests?
