Donald Trumps campaign manager says rape would not exist if women were strongerDonald Trumps new campaign manager once insisted that rape could be eradicated if women were as strong as men.
Kellyanne Conway was discussing the roles of women in the military on a 2013 episode of PBS To the Contrary, a roundtable discussion show featuring an all-women panel, when she made the baffling, victim-blaming declaration.
If we were physiologically not mentally, emotionally, professionally equal to men, if we were physiologically as strong as men, rape would not exist, she said. You would be able to defend yourself and fight him off.
Conway and the other panelists had been debating the roles of women in combat and military physical fitness requirements. The Republican campaign manager mentioned that there should be one universal fitness test for all soldiers, not womens and mens versions, to ensure we have the best prepared military regardless of gender.
Her comment did not appear to take into account male victims of rape and sexual assault. It also seem to place the blame on women who cant fight off their aggressors not the offenders who commit the sex crimes.
Conway was not immediately available to clarify her comments.

(28,394 posts)She is a lawyer, but no one would ever know it because of her blathering dim-witted comments.
Found this on Twitter:
She has been around the TV talk show circuit for a long time. I remember her as Kellyanne Fitzpatrick. There must be tons of examples of similar hateful and offensive comments that she has made over the decades.

(46,794 posts)She has an answer for any question, never gets rattled, rarely even takes a breath, and does it all with that fixed smile on her face. She is probably the only effective surrogate that Trump has and shouldn't be underestimated. If we're lucky, she'll quit.

(65,616 posts)Does the average IQ drop every time Trump hires and fires a new campaign manager? That is jaw dropping stupid and yet he has a few months to go.
I bet in the end, Trump will be his own campaign manager. Just like he is his own PR guy and self CEO! It is disgusting what people will say to make a paycheck and get Trump elected. Oh yes it is.

(14,250 posts)she was referring to traditional rape. not that icky gay rape. Oh, and if a woman rapes a man, he wasn't much of a man and probably liked it.
But if the woman is in a traditional marriage, it isn't rape anyway. It also isn't rape if she is dressed wrong, or if she had ever had a drink, or if she is on birth control.
You just have to know how to listen to them.

(11,080 posts)Her next argument might well be: "If all women openly carried guns, rape would not exist." But then there's roofies to consider . . .
Nope, the argument can't stand up on any merits.

(2,073 posts)What she said is repugnant and morally reprehensible, for sure, but hardly surprising.
The definition of insanity is not only doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, it's also expecting someone to do (or say) something different from what they have always done.
Instead of being mad about it, help Hillary win by getting out the vote.

(51,974 posts)profoundly idiotic.
even if the average woman was as physically strong as the average man, a stronger-than-average man would still be able to exert power over a weaker-than-average woman.
never mind that this would in no way change the situation where the woman is unconscious, overly drunk, drugged, etc.
it wouldn't help elderly victims, unless kellyanne is also thinking elderly victims would also be as strong as much younger rapists?
it also wouldn't help victims who are being threatened, blackmailed, or extorted, or where the rapist has a weapon.
