Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff raised $8.3 million during the first quarter of the year, his campaign announced Wednesday night.
Its a stunning haul, especially for a 30-year-old first-time candidate whos running as a Democrat in a traditionally Republican House district.
Ossoffs candidacy for the special election to fill Georgias 6th District seat, the first competitive congressional election of Donald Trumps presidency, has attracted national attention. That shows in his fundraising, which his opponents will surely use against him: 95 percent of his donations came from out of state, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which reviewed his first quarter filing. His report has not yet been filed with the Federal Election Commission.
The former Hill staffer and documentary filmmaker ended the quarter with $2.1 million. The average donation was $42.52, according to the campaign. The liberal website Daily Kos says its supporters have given Ossoff $1.25 million.

(2,678 posts)It's no problem for Republicans to use out of state money! Democrats don't get the same pass. IOKIYAAR!

(2,284 posts)I live in WI and know first hand how the Koch's came into our state an gave millions to Republicans. Their money made a huge difference in our elections and was responsilble for Dems losing many offices.

(26 posts)for your donation! The effort here has been "womanned" by thousands of women, hitting the streets and the phones daily. There are also many out of state volunteers arriving that are being housed locally until the election. It is nice to know we are not alone here in suburban Atlanta.

(9,090 posts)here's the problem though, playing out in 40 states with 80 senators every election the last 30 years, ignored by the left/dems
in georgia ossoff supporters are celebrating $8mil raised, while ignoring the fact that dozens of rw radio stations in that state are and will be opposing him and all GA dems, including 14 limbaugh stations (worth $75,000 x 14 = $1MIL/WEEK anti-dem/ossoff) that parasitize 3 universities Georgia 7, Georgia Tech 5, Georgia Southern 2.
257 Limbaugh stations are endorsed by at least 88 major universities
..
support for ossoff should include NOT ignoring rw radio while it attack him.

(65,175 posts)looking at his campaign website, he seems in step with much of the party at least. Doesn't seem like a Manchin or Heitkamp. Alyssa Milano helped drive people to do early voting for him, and she supported Sanders like me.

(7,358 posts)They are using video footage of a group of thugs dressed in all black and masked, breaking windows and bashing cars etc. We found out these were unaffiliated (anarchist?) that edged their way into a peaceful protest in Seattle. Yet the Republicans are using the footage claiming they're "liberals" .. also showing pictures of Nancy Pelosi. What's key is their demeaning and derogatory use of the word LIBERAL. This resonates with the ilk in this district .. just letting you know. Very Creepy.

(21,596 posts)I hope enough people will go to the polls on Tuesday in order to avoid allowing the GA SoS (R) Brian Kemp & the GA GOP to steal the election via our 100% Diebold paperless voting machines.
Never forget what the GA GOP did to Senator (and former GA SoS) (D) Max Cleland.
