Hope Solo again will face charges after reversal of earlier court decision

Source: ESPN

Hope Solo, the star goalie who led the U.S. soccer team to the Women's World Cup title in July, will again face domestic violence charges after a Washington state appeals court on Friday reversed a lower court's decision to dismiss a case in which she was alleged to have beaten up her nephew and half-sister.

Solo initially faced two counts of domestic violence in the fourth degree after an incident in June 2014 at the home of her half-sister, Teresa Obert. Solo told police on the scene she was the victim, but after interviews with all parties, she was charged with two counts of domestic violence. But as the case was nearing trial in January, a judge dismissed the charges on procedural grounds. City prosecutors, in a rare move, immediately appealed the decision.

A document filed Friday to the state court's website does not offer a timetable for a new trial, saying only "The court reverses the decision of the lower court and remands the case to the Kirkland (Washington) Municipal Court."

Obert said Friday she had no comment.

If it's true that the nephew broke a broom over Hope's head, it sounds like a mutual combatant situation. Also, since the sister refused to cooperate the first time around (out of fear her her son would get busted, too?), they've both got a built-in credibility problem.

Maybe it's just coincidental, but if it was team from another country we'd probably look at it suspiciously.

9. As I understand it, World Cup policy is to not take action unless you're actually charged.

My guess is that Hope's sister was talked out cooperating with the investigation either to keep Hope on the team, or to keep her son from being charged along with her.

11. A lot of us did. I am a big-time USWNT supporter, but she should not have been in Canada.

To prevent this from being a total loss, I'm putting Hope Solo on my "Next Aaron Hernandez Award" list.

...(T)here was no mention in the police report of Solo slamming the teenager's head into the cement...(W)hen they sought treatment the next day, records didn't reflect they had told doctors that the boy's head had been slammed into the cement...Obert had asked an officer not to include in his report that her son hit Solo over the head with a broomstick...

The transcripts reflect Obert and her son (did not)...answer questions...that sought medical information...(about) Obert's son. On this point, their lawyer...repeatedly objected, citing medical privilege, and her clients refused to answer. Among other things, (Solo's lawyer) appeared to be trying to suggest that the boy was mentally unstable and, thus, unreliable or prone to behavioral problems...

Based on knowing a six-foot, mildly autistic eleven-year old who is given to temper tantrums when bullied, my bet is on behavioral problems.

Wow! And you haven't noticed Solo's own history with rage? Hmm.
