White House still pondering Equality Act

Source: Washington Blade

Despite support expressed by Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joseph Biden over the weekend, the White House said Tuesday President Obama isn’t ready to endorse the Equality Act, although he backs the idea of federal non-discrimination protections for LGBT people.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the Equality Act, which would amend existing areas of civil rights law to include gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, is still under review by the administration.

Earnest made the remarks during a routine news briefing when the Washington Blade asked if he’s ready to announce President Obama endorses the Equality Act after positive comments from Clinton, the leading Democratic presidential candidate, and Biden, who’s considering a presidential bid.

“I’m not prepared to say that yet,” Earnest said. “This is a piece of legislation that the White House does continue to review.” ... But Earnest said even without explicit support for the bill, Obama believes “we must ensure all Americans are treated equally under federal law” and is still behind the idea of enshrining comprehensive non-discrimination protections for LGBT people.

since 1994. 41 years is sufficient pondering time for virtually anything. They are always behind the idea, they always have reasons, excuses, delays and of course lots of Bible verses.

So how many people have said it's hard for them to decide if they can really give up discrimination? 41 years worth.

The 1974 version was introduced by Bella Abzug and Ed Koch, both of whom are in fact dead without having seen passage of the act or a version of it. Continues to review, must ensure. 41 years. Forty fucking one years.
