Weekly Address: Writing the Rules for a Global Economy
Source: White House
In this week's address, the President spoke to the merits of the high-standards trade agreement reached this past week. The Trans-Pacific Partnership helps level the playing field for American workers and businesses, so we can export more Made-in-America products all over the world, supporting higher-paying American jobs here at home. The President acknowledged that past trade agreements have not always lived up to expectations, but emphasized that this is a good deal, with the strongest commitments on labor and environment of any trade agreement in history. It reflects Americas values and gives our workers the fair shot at success they deserve. The President encouraged everyone to read the agreement, which will be available online well before he signs it, and looked forward to working with lawmakers from both parties as they consider and approve this deal.

(127,312 posts)...and am recing as a thanks for your weekly post to provide notice of these addresses (as it seems that many out there still don't realize these weekly addresses even exist and they suggest that only FDR did them).... although the subject of this address rightly causes much heartburn.
My whole take is that this country was founded and financed by the wealthy of Europe, and included their many corporate "old world" entities that set up shop here centuries ago... And these "founders" established a system of government that in the "modern" sense, is now termed "capitalism"... and that system is not about to go away any time soon even with a veneer of being something else. There are still too many resources here (and elsewhere) to exploit and exploit them they will.

(39,215 posts)corporations are big enough to help themselves. He acknowledges that it has not been done in the past but is in the bill now. I have trouble understanding why they used all those corporate lobbyists to help write the bill if it is for the people.
He needs to let us see what he is doing.
