KEENE, N.H. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton brought her message about tighter gun control to New Hampshire on Friday, days after forcefully challenging Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont on the issue during the first Democratic presidential debate of the 2016 campaign.
Much of Clintons introduction during a nearly two-hour town hall forum was dedicated to how she planned to curb gun violence and enact legislation to keep firearms out of the hands of violent felons, domestic abusers, and the mentally ill as president.
In a question-and-answer session that followed, voters asked Clinton about everything from clean energy to student debt to gay rights.
Among the elected officials, students, and campaign organizers who praised the former first lady in the 20 minutes before Clinton took the microphone was Clai Lasher-Sommer, who described being shot by her abusive stepfather as a teenager 45 years ago.
................
But much of Fridays town hall in Keene Clintons third visit to the city during her 11 trips to New Hampshire was dedicated to answering more than a dozen questions from the multigenerational audience. Voters wanted to know what Clinton thought about the countrys nursing shortage (expand programs; increase the number of students in the pipeline, she said), genetically modified food (not completely in favor, but not totally against), and the Glass-Steagall law dealing with commercial banks (her plan, she says, is tougher and more comprehensive)................

(9,951 posts)Growing Public Support for Gun Rights
More Say Guns Do More to Protect Than Put People at Risk
Two Years After Newtown, A Shift in Favor of Gun RightsFor the first time in more than two decades of Pew Research Center surveys, there is more support for gun rights than gun control. Currently, 52% say it is more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns, while 46% say it is more important to control gun ownership.
Support for gun rights has edged up from earlier this year, and marks a substantial shift in attitudes since shortly after the Newtown school shootings, which occurred two years ago this Sunday.
The balance of opinion favored gun control in the immediate aftermath of the Newtown tragedy in December 2012, and again a month later. Since January 2013, support for gun rights has increased seven percentage points from 45% to 52% while the share prioritizing gun control has fallen five points (from 51% to 46%).
Increasing Number Say Gun Ownership Protects People From CrimeThe latest national survey by the Pew Research Center, conducted Dec. 3-7 among 1,507 adults, also finds a shift in attitudes about whether gun ownership in this country does more to protect people or put peoples safety at risk. Nearly six-in-ten Americans (57%) say gun ownership does more to protect people from becoming victims of crime, while 38% say it does more to endanger personal safety. In the days after Newtown, 48% said guns do more to protect people and 37% said they placed people at risk.

She is such a hypocrite!
I remember her trying to use that as a wedge issue against Obama.
I'm not a gun owner or a pro-gun nut, but I live in an area in Northeast CT where Democrats own and use guns for hunting and target practice and many of them, not just the Teabaggers, were pissed at the gun control legislation passed by our Democratic Legislature.

The NRA could sell it and make money.

(10,164 posts)The NRA is the largest provider of gun-specific insurance. Mandating such coverage would, at least temporarily (until other companies offered competitive policies), fatten their coffers. Is that an outcome anyone here wants?
Moreover, I just don't see how this would reduce gun-related violent crime (usually the point of gun control measures). Obviously insurance wouldn't cover any harm caused by a these crimes; no insurer in the world covers harm caused by criminal acts. I could see it covering accidental harm, but that's pretty uncommon (505 accidental deaths by firearm in 2013...not sure how many non-fatal injuries). That may be reason enough to mandate insurance, and I wouldn't object to such a requirement...but I wouldn't expect it to affect gun crime in any way.

There's a source of income for the NRA.
Selling such liability insurance.
That would deny no one their Second Amendment rights.
