Brazil Pulls Out of Electoral Mission to Venezuela

Source: New York Times

CARACAS, Venezuela — Brazil is pulling out of a South American mission to observe crucial legislative elections in Venezuela over what it says a lack of guarantees by the socialist government and its veto of the choice to head the delegation.

Brazil's highest electoral tribunal said Tuesday that a months-long attempt to organize a mission under the auspices of the Union of South American Nations had been frustrated by Venezuela's refusal to accept the group's choice of Brazilian jurist and politician Nelson Jobim to lead the mission.

The decision by Latin America's largest democracy to pull its support comes as pressure is building on President Nicolas Maduro to allow outside observation of what's shaping up to be a hard-fought contest that already has some on both sides talking of fraud by their opponents.

For the first time since the late Hugo Chavez kicked off Venezuela's revolution 16 years ago, the opposition is heavily favored in national polls to win the December 6 election and could seek to leverage a victory to cut short Maduro's term before it ends in 2019. But the government's domination of the airwaves, bigger campaign war chest and a complicated electoral system that gives a bigger voice to rural areas where the opposition has less influence are all likely to make the balloting close.

Not even the Interamerican Court of Human Rights is being allowed, or anybody from the OAS. Guess that shows how much behind doors Maduro and co. want to keep these elections. And yet there are still some useful idiots in this site that keep defending this sorry excuse for a state leader.

9. Since the US funds anti-government activities in Venezuela and Nelson Jobim is very pro-US

I think it is very wise of Maduro to not support him. Doesn't Brazil have anyone else? I'm sure if they looked they could find someone who doesn't have such close ties to the US.

And really the New York Times thinks the government dominates the airwaves? Is this the same airwaves that tried to force Chavez out of office at gun point? Really? The air waves are owned by the uber rich and the uber rich conservatives have hated the socialist ever since they were voted into office.

If not for US funding the rich conservative opposition party in Venezuela, they would have disappeared a long time ago.

Ever wonder how much these anti-Venezuela government posters get paid to spread lies and disinformation throughout the web? All those US tax dollars spent trying to get rid of the socialist in Venezuela, some of it is spent right here in the US.

I mean your estimate of 2000 CIA filth in Venezuela, not your distractionary nonsense about world control. That figure may be close for officers and directly managed agents and assets in a targeted state of that size and operations of comparable duration. But who can say? The agencies of covert warfare like to minimize potential exposure if possible and make use of independent parapolitical operators and "allies." It's all secret for a reason. We are in Bayesian territory, criminal organizations do not publish member lists, though fortunately Wikileaks sometimes does.

In any case such persons would not be "ours." Even if you choose to identify with them in the first person, I do not. They are not serving any interest that should be identified with the vast majority of US-American people. Nor are they pursuing any kind of higher good, just fucking with another foreign country where they have no business on behalf of obscure rich interests.

how we are using tax dollars to pass propaganda throughout the US on the internet. And some of those fools are very, very anti-socialist Venezuela.
