4-year-old killed in road rage shooting

Source: ABC KOAT Channel 7 Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —A 4-year-old girl has died after she was shot during a road rage incident Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 40.

A father, mother and child were in the car, but only the child was hit by the gunfire. It’s unclear how many shots were fired.

An off-duty Bernalillo County deputy pulled over to help shortly after the shooting. At first he thought the child had fallen out of the car, but then he learned she'd been shot.

"This is a complete disrespect of human life. This is something that should not be happening in Albuquerque, New Mexico," APD Chief Gorden Eden said.

Police do not believe the family knew the shooter. They’re calling it a road rage case.

"We are begging for information"

that the red truck (with the 4 year old girl inside) was purposely blocking a red sedan from driving by.

I just don't understand this. I have met my share of nuts on the road, but whenever I have my family in the car I will always yield to some idiot on the road. I would never endanger my family.

I am not saying the family deserved this, but it certainly escalated the situation. Nobody should be pulling out handguns on the highway and shooting a car no matter how bad the roadrage incident is.

The eyewitness said she go out off the highway because the situation was escalating and thought it would it end badly. She wasn't wrong there.

a road rage incident where we were in a traffic jam and the rager was trying to pass everybody on the shoulder. He came upon a big truck who decided he wasn't going to let the rager by, so he blocked him repeatedly. This went on for quite some time. I was right behind the rager. It was kind of scary, and I was keeping my distance as much as possible in a jam. Next thing I know, cops are walking up the middle line and the shoulder, guns drawn, and they order the rager out of the car and down on the ground. Apparently, the rager waved a gun at the truck driver. Made me realize what's driving around out there. Also, anybody who says cops don't have a dangerous job is delusional. You couldn't give me enough weaponry to approach a demonstrated road rager known to have a gun.

I blocked a guy traveling in the emergency lane in heavy traffic. When he managed to get by me, he rolled down his window and said that if he had a gun, he would have capped my ass. Needless to say, I don't do traffic enforcement anymore...too many nuts out there.

That person certainly would be delusional. I have never seen this claim made. I have seen people say that there are jobs demonstrably more dangerous than being a cop, but never anyone claim that police work is not dangerous.

If the eyewitness' story is true, the father paid a pretty big price for his assholery.

I could never imagine driving like that with my kids in the car. Just let them pass. I don't understand people who do this.

Here in Florida, I assume everyone has a gun in their car. It's a safe assumption.

Edit: Details have come to light that call into question the eyewitness' account. It now appears that the girl's father was not the one who instigated the event.

But if the eyewitness' account is accurate, he's not entirely blameless either.

I'll bet more than anything he's now wishing he had let the other motorist pass instead of letting testosterone cloud his judgment.

While I will never say he deserved the tragedy that befell him, I will say that sometimes being a douchebag carries a heavy price.

People with the 'child on board' tags can be the most aggressive ones out there, where I'm at. And what's with the 10-fold increase in Handicap stickers I'm seeing everywhere. More times than not the people getting out of these vehicles look way more healthier than I have ever been.

Their first response to anything is pulling a pistol and blasting the problem away.

I've seen this kind of temper a couple times. One of my neighbors is throwing a party, another neighbor comes out with his pistol and shoots in the ground near their house. Instead of calling the cops for a noise ordinance issue, he defaults to this

This same neighbor pulled his pistol on a lost dog fighting his in their backyard. I got the lost dog, took it home and found the owners the next day when the vet opened. This guy eventually shot himself and their son is a registered sex offender.

Clearly a case of someone THAT SHOULD NOT OWN A FUCKING GUN!

The auto lobby would whine but they'd go along with it, and somebody could get rich off of selling the bulletproof garb for growing kids.

We require seat belts don't we?
