After 52 attempts over five years on measures as ambitious and politically fraught as Port Authority reform, public employee pension fund payments and a Superstorm Sandy bill of rights, Governor Christie’s streak of sustained vetoes broke over a three-page bill requested by the courts.

Christie, who is running for the Republican nomination for president, boasts often on the campaign trail of vetoing more than 400 bills and keeping his party together when the Democrats who control the Legislature try to override him.

But on Thursday, three Republicans broke ranks with Christie and with GOP leadership in the Senate and voted to override the veto on a suddenly controversial bill concerning mental health and gun access that had passed unanimously in June.

The bill, requested by the Administrative Office of the Courts, would require local law enforcement to communicate with the courts when someone seeks to get their mental health record expunged in order to obtain a gun permit. Current law does not allow for police to notify courts of potential factors that may weigh on a judge’s decision, such as pending charges and criminal history.

I told them and I told them ,I said look, it comes down to a choice ,it's either glazed or it's powder puff .

I thought that was the end of it.

You would think by now they know what happens when things don't go my way.
