Iowa Poll: Carson surges to 9-point lead; Trump slides

Source: Des Moines Register

Donald Trump is the biggest loser in the new Iowa Poll.

The pious Ben Carson has plowed past the braggadocious New York businessman to take the front-runner crown, unseating Trump as the most popular choice for president among likely GOP caucusgoers, the new Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll shows.

Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, is the favorite choice for 28 percent — 9 percentage points ahead of Trump's 19 percent.

Even Carson’s most controversial comments — about Muslims, Hitler and slavery — are attractive to likely Republican caucusgoers. The poll shows just two perceived weaknesses: his lack of foreign policy experience and his research using fetal tissue during his medical career.

is apparently just peachy keen with the Democrats in that state. There's a reason Iowa's first.

And California, who is much closer demographically to the rest of the U.S. is almost dead last in the primary schedule. Wonder why that is?

"Carson Leading in Iowa" is just one more reason Iowa should NOT be first caucus of the primary season.

Jindal, for instance is 57% favorable, 27% unfavorable. WTF? The 'never done anything since failing with a SotU repsonse' candidate? But Rand Paul, who was supposed to be a big danger in this election, is 43% favorable, 48% unfavorable.

More evidence that the Republican Iowans should not have any prominent part in the electoral process. They're incurably weird.

the gop was stupid enough to telegraph that they will do almost anything to get trump out and not get the nom. this poll is just way too conveniently timed.

not a trump fan, but this concerted effort by gop establishment to run him out of the race is bullshit. people get to pick their leaders, and if republicans want a racist nutjob as their standardbearer, then so be it.

sick of the elites telling us peasants what is "good" for us. screw them.

Now I am sure that some of you are Iowans who keep landlines just so that you can impersonate Republican voters and infuriate the conservative electorate. But don't fess up yet! Just know that I love you.

It is amazing how well nutjobs do in Republican circles.

Maybe that should be a question at the next Republican debate.

Is the world 6,000 years old, or around 4.5 billion years old.

Watch them squirm and wet their pants on stage.

Would be interesting.

Hey CNN - That would be good for eyeballs!!!!!

The Fundamentalists in Iowa propel whoever they consider the "best Christian" into contention. Trump is nowhere near being their kind of guy. The good doctor is their kind of guy even though he's well, you know, black. If somehow Cason falls from grace look for Cruz or Huckster to score here. With the possible exception of Cruz none of these clowns is going to win anywhere else.

The Libertarians and Freedom freaks in New Hampshire pick the angriest most populist candidate. That could be, probably will be Trump--unless he decides to pick up his toys and go home. I don't see much happening for poor old Rand Paul who thought New Hampshire was going to be his big win. Kasich could also score here among the not so nutty types. Fiorina's a wild card.

The military lovin' folks in South Carolina will always go for the neocon. Lindsey Graham is the biggest neocon of the lot but there's not a lot of love for him even in his home state. Look for Bush or Rubio to win here.

Then, once things get under way, the big money guys step in and put an end to all the fun and games and make sure that their candidate--who may be the same as the neocon gets the nomination. I'm looking for Bush or Rubio to get the nod of the people who matter. Kasich may get some love too if he's still in the race. The live longshot here is Fiorina. Sure she's a self-promoting incompetent but Big Money likes incompetents as long as they does what they want.

My guess is that Big Money will find a way to shove Jeb Bush down everyone else's throat just like they did Romney. It's just what they do.

when you have to drop down to the #4 candidate in current polls (Marco Rubio) to find evidence of mental stability and a possible ability to formulate and carry out realistic governmental policies?

Either way, it's still a clown that's at the front of the clown car. Either would be a complete disaster as president.
