Clinton Wins Endorsement of Influential Union AFSCME

Source: ABC News

Hillary Rodham Clinton has won the endorsement of a powerful union representing an array of government workers.

The 1.6 million-member American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees announced its support of Clinton on Friday.

The union's president, Lee Saunders, says Clinton would be the "most effective champion for working families."

Clinton received AFSCME's endorsement in the fall of 2007 and its backing was sought by both Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

All other things being equal, I don't think prior endorsement of a candidate affects the current candidate's prospects to any real degree.

As a AFSCME member and shop steward, we were lied to regarding this endorsement.
We were told that there would be no early endorsement of any canidiate. Promised that was not going to happen.
It was meant to keep the executive board or rogue members from an early endorsement as there is very strong support for Bernie Sanders. The endorsement vote for was made toward the end of the executive board's meeting by the board member from New York.
As a AFSCME member and shop steward, I do not support this endorsement and I am not alone. Not by a long shot.
